THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 13, 2006. July is in full swing with all the neat holiday things up and ready to enjoy. Howick Twp. started the month with its celebrations and Grey followed this past weekend with a tribute to history. Music in the park By Jo-Ann McDonald It's been a busy week for some at the Brussels Legion, who were getting prepared and packed to do a meal at Grey Twp.'s 150th anniversary party. It was a great day with the fish fry crew serving over 450. The crew included Rick, Jo-Ann, Neil, Scott, Kelly, LeeAnn, Jason Presentation of Grade 8 awards for Brussels students was done at the graduation ceremonies. Open Doors Ontario schedule is out and the usual items of summer are available for our leisure. The problem can be what to do and when, not what's there to do today in our corner of the world. We spent Canada Day in Grundy Provincial Park with grandsons Andrew and Zach dressed in our red, waving our flags and canoeing and having a very Canada Day. I'm always impressed when the land formation changes. At Grundy, north of Parry Sound the rocks are right at the ground surface and observing the tenacity of plants to grow out of the rock always gives me pause. It and Adam McDonald connection, Mabel and Sharon Glanville, Willis Knight, Murray Lowe, George Adams, Mary Bernard, Calvin Semple as well as six Grey firefighters helping out. The Legion Hall was beautifully decorated for the wedding reception for Katie Harrison and Josh Wilson on Saturday. Red, white and black award; Cameron Schlosser, Trista Deitner, Brussels Lions citizenship awards; Robert Cronin, most improved academic effort; Carla Tustin, Morris Twp. most improved student award; Heather Hill, Ida Evans estate award; Andrew doesn't take long to imagine the Group of Seven wandering about the northern part of Ontario and painting very impressive landscapes just like we were enjoying. The camp staff, one area of very obvious government cutbacks, did a good job of telling the history of the park and retelling the past land uses. Logging of white pine, the fur trade and now tourism have kept the many lakes and rivers in the area busy over the past 300 years. After six days together we had the camping life pretty well figured out and all agreed under the stars that we'd had a very good time and must do it again. The organizers, the planners and was beautifully adorned through- out. Congratulations to the newlyweds. , Our deepest sympathies are extended to the Brighton family on the passing of Irma Brighton. The family gathered downstairs for the luncheon following the service on Saturday. Watson, Trista Deitner, Royal Canadian Legion proficiency awards; Matthew Cardiff, Trista Deitner, Heather Hill, Andrew Lindsay, Travis Roetcisoender, Elli Schimanski, Andrea Watson, academic excellence. workers from Grey Twp. are having a quiet week. Taking time to consider the weekend past and the success of the 150th celebration of their part of Huron County. Times like these are for remembering the pure guts of our ancestors and giving thanks for that intestinal fortitude as they opened up the land and our future. Can you imagine how cold and hungry they were at times as they cleared the land for buildings for shelter, then fields for crops and finally roads for community? No running water for shower, no central heat and no grocery store — yes we need to be very thankful for the efforts for our ancestors. So the smiles on the faces and the laughter and chatting was the best part of reviewing the history of Grey. As the next 150 takes form we are thankful for the enthusiasm, the labour and pride in land that comes from Grey Twp. as they offered all of us a very well planned, thought out weekend. Thank you for all the fun. Keep your eyes open, things are on the move. A wee cherub was found all alone in south Brussels and not at its right home, and the letters from the Legion Board are out and about. Be observant Crime Stoppers or the OPP would like to know if you have some facts. Enjoy the summer. Bye now, Betty G.W. Altogether now People meet three times a week, from 1 - 2 p.m., in the BMG pool in the water art exercise with a purpose class.
