Blyth's U-11 Thunder
falls to Goderich, Clinton
Blyth Thunder's U-11 team
travelled to Goderich on Tuesday,
June 6 to play Goderich
Game captains were Kelsey Kerr
and Jean Paul VanDorp. First time
goalie Kyle Treble did a great job
covering the net during the first half
of the game.
Goderich was quick to score
during the first minute of the game,
then went on to score once more
during the first half.
Jean Paul VanDorp was able to get
a goal for Blyth after stealing the
ball from his opponents, so it was a
2 -1 lead for Goderich as the
halftime whistle blew.
The Brussels U-10s won their first
game recently against Listowel.
The squad came out strong with
Lexi Smith scoring first. Austin
Johnston assisted.
That got Brussels pumped. Carl
Daw put one in with Seth Nichol
assisting. Then Dalen Martin
decided it was his turn. His goal was
Wingham I travelled to Blyth to
play the Blyth Lightning U-13 co-ed
soccer team on June 15 on the
Sparling soccer field.

Blyth's net for the first half of the
game and Michelle Studhalter
covered the net for the second half.
Wingham took the lead and scored
early in the game. They scored
several goals before Blyth's
JP VanDorp went in net for
Thunder during the last half of the
game. He made some great saves.
Blyth played a stronger second half
and took several shots on the
Goderich net, but were not able to
get the ball past the Goderich goal
line. The final score was 3-1 win for
Goderich H.
Blyth Thunder hosted a game
against Clinton Arsenal at the
Sparling's field on June 13. J P
VanDorp did a great job as
Thunder's goaltender for the first
half of the game. However Clinton
was able to get two goals during the
first half and Thunder players were
assisted by Alex Ramirez. Daw and
Smith scored one each before half
time.
In the second halt', the team
slowed down a bit.
Matt Terpstra had many close.
calls but finally put one in with Joel
Kipfer assisting. Daw scored his
hattrick. Taylor Higgins assisted.
Brendon Boven scored the only goal
of the night for Blyth from just
outside the 18 yard line.
Wingham played a strong game,
with better ball control, playing their
positions and always covering their
opponents.
Wingham outplayed Blyth and
won the game by several goals.
The final score was an 8-i victory
for Wingham.

First-time keeper, Zach Drost
covered the net for the second half —
of the game. He made some saves,
but allowed two goals to get past
him. On one of the goals he had a
piece of the ball, but he just couldn't
get his hands around it to make the
save.
Thunder played a very strong
second half. Kathryn Peach scored a
goal on an assist from JP VanDorp.
Trystan Weber gave a nice pass to
get the ball to JP VanDorp for the
final goal of the game.
The final score was a 4-2 win for
Clinton.
There was great goaltending by
Matt Terpstra and Smith.
Brussels coach Cheryl Souch was
so impressed by her team she treated
them all to ice cream.
The Brussels Bantams were on the
road again this week.
Their first game was a pitching
dual against Kirkton.
At bat in the first, Weston McLeod
and Tyler Deitner swung out at the
plate then Wade Stephenson singled
and advanced to third on passed
pitches. Here he remained as
Brianne Wheeler's long fly to centre
was caught.
Wheeler was on the mound for the
game. In the bottom, Kirkton scored
one run on two hits and one
strikeout.
Brussels iii the second went down
one, two, three with strikeouts to
Brad Quesenberry, Justin Pipe and
Taylor Prior.
Kirkton put runners on in the
second with a single and a walk.
Brussels dug in and left them
standing with a strikeout and two
quick outs in the infield.
In the third Cody Subject waited
the walk only to be put out in a close
-call- on second. Ryan Smith and
Evan Ducharme closed the Brusels
at-bat with strikeouts.
Again Kirkton left runners sitting
on second and third as Brussels
defence held them in place.
The fourth had McLeod and
Deitner sit on strikeouts. Stephenson
waited a walk and advanced to
second. Wheeler flied out to short to
dash chances of scoring.
Brussels held the Kirkton squad
on one strikeout and one double.
Quesenberry led off for Brussels
on -a walk. He advanced to third on
passed pitches and scored on an RBI
by Pipe. Brussels then loaded the
bases on walks to Prior, Subject and
Ducharme, only to be left there on a
pop fly by McLeod.
Brussels' defence held Kirkton on
a strikeout and two infield outs.
Brussels took the lead when
Stephenson doubled then scored on
an RBI by Quesenberry.
Kirkton tied the game on a solo
homerun to centre. Wheeler added
three more strikeouts to keep the
game even.
In the seventh Prior flied out to
short and Subject and Smith were
left swinging at plate.
Wheeler stayed strong on the
mound adding two strikeouts. A
caught pop up ended the gaine.
The final score was 2-2.
Brussels travelled to Holmesville
for the next game which was
plagued with walks and overthrows.
Andrew Lindsey led off for
Brussels and reached first on a walk.
Deitner outran a bunt and both
scored on .a single by Quesenberry.
Stephenson struck out arid Brendan
Stretton was put out on first. A walk
to Prior and Subject loaded the bases
and a double by Smith scored three.
Ducharme scored Smith with a
single and the inning ended when
McLeod flew out to right.
Quesenberry started on the mound
allowing Holmesville to score seven
runs on five walks and five hits and
three errors.
In the second Lindsey led off with
a single followed by a single by
Dietner. Both scored on a triple by
Quesenberry. Stephenson slammed
a triple and scored on a sacrifice by
Stretton. Prior waited another walk
and advanced to second only to
remain there on two pop-ups by
Subject and Smith.
Smith took over pitching duty for
Brussels. Again Holmesville scored
seven on five walks, three singles, a
double and one homerun.
Brussels went down in three.
Ducharme grounded out to first,
McLeod struck out and Lindsey
grounded out to second.
Smith only allowed two in the
third with one strikeout, one walk,
two hits and two errors.
Brussels added another run in the
final inning. Deitner waited a walk
and scored on a single by
Stephenson. The final score was
Holmesville 19, Brussels 11.
The next home game is June 21 at
7 p.m. against Holmesville and June
28 at 7 p.m. against Fullarton.
