The Huron County Library is
gearing up flit- summer and seven
weeks of exciting children's
programming throughout the county.
This year's TD Summer Reading
Club will be held weekly, at all 12
library branches, beginning the first
week in July and ending in mid-
August. Children ages four through
12 will go on a "Quest for Heroes"
encountering super heroes and
villains, figures of historical
• importance and even the unsung
heroes of Huron County, through
stories. contests. crafts and games.
Natalie Vander Burgt is back for
her third year as a literacy co-
ordinator and will be joined by Amy
McConnell, a new addition to the
reading club team.
The summer reading program is
made possible by grants from Young
Canada Works in Heritage
Institutions, a youth employment
initiative of the Department of
Canadian Heritage and the Summer
Career Placements Program of
Hunian Resources - and • Skills
Development Canada which fund
the coordinators' salaries.
TD Bank Financial Group is a
major sponsor of the program across
the province in co-operation with the
Toronto Public Library, which plays
a large organizational role.
The reading program also relies
heavily on the support of all of
Huron County's libraries and the
generous donations of many
publishing companies, local
businesses and service clubs.
The summer reading club is an
excellent opportunity for children to
have a tun filled and educational
experience over the summer months,
and learn what they can do to
become heroes in their own
communities.
For more information or to
register, visit your local library or e-
mail Natalie Vander Burgt or Amy
McConnell at

BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at'Blyth United Church
on June 4 were Enid MacDonald and
Diana Campbell. Ushering were
Terry Richmond, Joann MacDonald
and Rob Mason. Guest pianist. was
Lyn Fischer of Teeswater. 011ie
Craig introduced the pianist to the
congregation and led a hymn-sing
before church began.
Rev. Robin McGauley welcomed
everyone to church on this Pentecost
Sunday. She reminded everyone that
next Sunday, June 11 the church
service would be at Camp
Menesetung. This would also be
award Sunday for the Sunday school
with a potluck lunch to follow.
Rev. McGauley led the prayer of
Four Directions where everyone
faced north, west, south and east as
the prayer indicated.
The choir anthem was Wonderful
Grace of Jesus.
The children came to the front
bringing- the baskets of food for the
food bank in Wingham. Rev.
McCauley explained to the children
that Pentecost Sunday was the 50th
day after Easter. Pentecost was the
day the Spirit came to the disciples
in the Upper Room and gave them
the power to leave the upper room
and to go out and tell the stories of
Jesus.
The symbols of Pentecost are the
dove, the flame of fire and the colour
red symbolizing the flame.
The scriptures were from Psalm
104 led by Gil Garratt and from Acts
2: 1-12, read in English by Rev.
McCauley, and read in French by
Mr. Garratt.
Rev. McCauley continued her
story of Pentecost. Pentecost begins
a long season for the church from
now until the Advent season.
The spirit energized the disciples
to go out and tell the stories of Jesus
in many different languages. The
church today should be energized to
go out into our own communities
and tell the stories in many
languages and in music and in art.
Rev. McCauley -invited the elders
to come forward to serve
communion. They were Barb
Richmond, Enid MacDonald, Randy
Fraser, Lois van Vliet, Tom Dunbar
and 011ie Craig.-
