sales staff calling on
2000 homes a week
That's what you get when you advertise in The
Citizen. Every week your message, whether a tiny
classified, or a full page ad, goes to more than 2000
homes in North Huron...and unlike many
salespeople, we're welcomed inside. What's more,
we're often asked to stick around for a whole week.
If you're not taking advantage of this opportunity to
tell people about your business call today.
Put your sales staff to work for you.

THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 1, 2006. PAGE 19.
What a difference a week makes.
Last weekend we were wearing
winter coats and carrying umbrellas
at a ball game and this weekend it
was shorts and sunscreen on a
beautiful sunny day.
We will take the latter of course.
On Sunday, we spent part of the
afternoon visiting with my sister-in-
law Karin McDonald Calhoun at her
home in Bayfield. She's home from
North Carolina after a visit in
Calgary with her children and
grandchild and we had a great time
catching up. Joining us was Bruce
McDonald. He along with Karin,
myself and Judy Lee enjoyed dinner
out.
Celebrating a milestone last week
was the Lee family. Ron and Joan
Lee celebrated their arrival in
Canada 50 years ago from England.
Along with Christopher, nine and
Christine, five, they settled in the St.
Thomas area and spent time in
Sparta and London before coming to
the Walton area in 1964 to settle on
the farm.
The family gathered at their home
near Whitechurch and enjoyed a
potluck dinner and an afternoon of
visiting.
Attending were son Christopher
and wife Judy and daughter
Christine along with grandchildren
Brett and Tracey Lee and Jake and
Stephanie Lee and great-
grandchildren Kaden, Ezra and
Bryce Lee.
Congratulations to Steve and
Melissa Leonhardt who were
married in the Dominican Republic
on May 24. Steve is the son of Dave
and Marie Leonhardt and Melissa is
the daughter of Bill and Rowena
Wallace. After the week's
honeymoon is over, they will 'return
to prepare for their move to Alberta.
May 24 is a popular day for
birthdays. Celebrating at Walton Inn
were Sharon Dalton with husband
Kelly and Donna McClure joining
them. Birthday boys included
Howard Hackwell, Scott McDonald
and David Perrie.
Celebrating a wedding anniversary
were George and Barb Tervit.
George is still a patient in Wingham
hospital.
Participating in the Healthy Heart
walk in Goderich on the weekend
was Neil McGavin along with
Shelley, Abby and Mackenzie
McGavin. They walked the five km.
trail and had a great afternoon.
Ron Lee was also a patient in
Wingham hospital and has since
been released after undergoing a
pacemaker operation. He is now
feeling great.
Returning from a week's holiday
in Florida are the Brian McGavin
family. They visited the Animal
Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, MGM
Epcot and Blizzard Beach at
Disneyland. On Sunday, they
enjoyed a special treat to celebrate
Abby's birthday. They dined at
Planet Hollywood in Downtown
Disney and had a great time seeing
the unique movie memorabilia, such
as Dorothy's dress from the Wizard
of Oz.
The weather was hot, in the 90s
most days.
Brandon, Abby and Tyson report
having a great time.
Our condolences to the Mitchell
family on the passing of Phyllis's
mother, Kathleen Cuthill. She had
been a resident of Huronlea and had
been in Seaforth hospital as well.
The bus has been really quiet the
last couple of weeks with many of
the students being away on school
trips. The Grade 7 students from
Seaforth Public School, including
Joelle Glanville, Nicole McIntosh,
and Dan Lubbers, went to Wilfred
'Laurier University and participated
in the Jump program. While there,
for the three days they took seven
university courses — biology,
chemistry, athletics, drama, fine arts,
psychology and business.
They swam in an olympic-sized
pool and slept in residence.
While Grade 7 was away learning
something educational, the Grade 8
class was away celebrating
graduation. Their class trip was to
Camp Celtic near Lions Head. There
were 31 attending including locals
Chris Becker and Gavin Bowers.
The bus ride was spent singing songs
and playing sit-down games. They
were away from Tuesday to Friday
and slept in cabins. Hours were
spent playing freeze tag, running
games, baseball and team sports.
They had the opportunity to try
archery and other activities.
The class had a full schedule that
had them wore out as most slept on
the bus ride home.
Congratulations to Ross and Cora
Alcock who celebrated 40 years of
marriage on the weekend with a
gathering of family and friends.
They enjoyed a lovel) catered dinner
and an afternoon and evening of
visiting and celebrating.
The Finlayson and McGavin
families gathered at Brian and
Shelley's to celebrate Abby's
birthday on Sunday. It was a
beautiful day to play outside, and
barbecue.
The Walton ball park's year began
with four games on the schedule.
Monday evening saw the slopitch
team, Brew Crew, on the diamond.
Walton's fastball team the
Brewers faced the Zurich Rangers
and lost 5-2.
Scott McDonald was on the hill
and was two for two at bat with two
RBIs.
Barry Young was also two for two
with a strong triple hit.
Zurich had two earned runs and
scored three on errors.
Wednesday night slopitch
FROM WALTON
featured the Walton Indians against
the Rats. The Indians had a good
game winning 15-7 with Barry
Young hitting a homerun.
Thursday was the start for the
Walton Wonders ladies slopitch
team against the Ethel Diehards.
Walton was defeated 12-7 in a good
game.
This year the league decided to
play with an 11" ball so the pitchers
mound and bases are moved back.
It's going to take a little getting used
to the pitching, but all teams will be
learning together.
