UCW hears gardening ideas
As those of us who have raised
children know, they love to imitate
what the adults around them do
whether it's vacuuming, cutting the
grass or helping with chores. etc.
Moreover they love outdoor
activities. As Crystal Whyte has
discovered in recent years, they
enjoy planting their own garden.
Crystal shared some of her ideas to
make this a fun experience with the
ladies of Londesborough United
Church Monday evening, May 15.
She put together a little booklet of
Rev. Pat Cook titled her message
at Londesborough United Churn on
Sunday, May 21. Full of Joy. She
said that true joy is experienced
when One lives life to the fullest.
In the morning's gospel passage,
John 15: 9-17, Jesus is speaking
with His disciples. He, too, loved
life.. He enjoyed sharing meals with
friends, having discussions while
travelling the countryside, attending
marriages, visiting and offering
healing both physical and spiritual.
In these verses, Jesus is feeling
quiet joy in the presence of His
disciples. He summarizes all • His
teachings in the statement "Love one
another as I have loved you."
He had a faithful love for His
followers and He reminds them that
as the Father has loved Him so he
loves them. It was a simple
command for them to spread His
love to/in the world. -
Christ found joy in his sacrifice. on
earth and demonstrated that joy can
come from giving, in sacrifice to
others. When we take time to listen
ideas and suggestions for each lady
to take home as starting point for
them to work with their children or
grandchildren. Some of the
interesting things Crystal has tried
with her children include giving
each child their own small garden
plot, allowing them to participate in
choosing seeds, shopping for seeds
for every letter in the alphabet,
spelling their name in lettuce,
growing vegetable soup, growing a
sunflower house.
Garden markets and small tools
Despite a chilly start to the day,
several folks were brave enough to
set up tables with yard sale items.
There seemed to be extra cars and
folk in the village checking out the
bargains.
For your information, villagers are
now able to purchase Chamney
Sanitation bag tags at Nature's Nest.
Winks in Clinton also carries
tags for Londesborough garbage
to others, to support another in need,
to share our talent and enthusiasm in
the community and reject selfish
values, we show love and find joy.
During the children's time at the
front, Rev. Pat reminded them that in
the four Gospels of the Bible, there
are many stories that show how
Jesus loved everyone. These stories
and words.of Christ tell them to. love
others as God loves them.
Psalm 98, the responSive psalm,
exhorts everyone to make a joyful
noise unto the Lord.
Flowers on the memorial stand
and communion table were placed
by the family of the late Jim
Jamieson. Our prayers and
condolences are offered to Jim's
family and friends during this
difficult time.
Ladies of the senior choir will
offer special music at next Sunday's
service, three-part harmony for your
enjoyment.
Reach for the Rainbow is a
program designed to integrate
challenged youth into a regular
make the summer activity more fun
for the children. Crystal also made
mention of several books that are
helpful. Each of the women present
took home two packaged activities
to share with their young relatives. It
was a most interesting presentation
that had many wanting to get
outdoors right away with a young
child to try these ideas. This part of
the evening culminated in a
perennial plant exchange.
Five members of the Whyte family
entertained . by clogging. Karen
pickup.
The Happy Gang Seniors hosted
74 cribbage players at the
Community Hall on Wednesday,
May 17 as part of the Senior Games
for the region.
They fed the garners sandwiches
and cake at noon. Tim Hortons in
Clinton graciously supplied the
coffee and Timbits for the morning
break.
summer camp program. Each of
these youth need a full-time assistant
to go along with them.
In 2005 one such child attended
Camp Menesetung each of the seven
camp weeks. Cost for one week
exceeds $300. Londesborough
United's Outreach Committee
encourages every family to fill a film
canister with loons and/or toons to
support this project.
Canisters are in the church narthex
and should be returned by June 18.
You may include, your envelope
number to receive a tax credit.
Whyte and Kerrie Whyte danced two
numbers to the music "Grandma's
Feather Bed" and "Sold".
They were joined by Nicole, Avery
and Quinn for dancing to the fun
number "Lollipop". All five dancers
are part of the Huron County
Cloggers.
Creation and Nature was the
theme of the devotional time led by
4ne Hoggart, Lena Nesbitt and
Karen Whyte. The scripture reading
was the parable of the good seed. A
mother taught her children about life
lessons in the reading Flowers and
Weeds.
A short business meeting
conducted by president Barb
Bosman dealt with plans for summer
activities.
