The Ontario Provincial
Conference is to be hosted by the
London Area Women's Institute.
London area consists of seven
Districts; Huron West, Huron South,
Perth South, Middlesex East,
Middlesex Northwest, Oxford,
Elgin.
A pre-conference trip to Stratford
and taking in a play is on the agenda
for those theatre lovers.
Over 300 members and delegates
are set to grace Fanshawe College,
London, Aug. 11,12,13 as the
Women's Institute gather to hear
motivational keynote speaker,
Richard O'Brien Friday evening. A
wide range of workshops will
indulge the ladies' passion for
learning, on Saturday. A mystery
bus tour which ends at the
undisclosed site of the Saturday
evening banquet dinner and
finishing off on Sunday with a inter-
faith church service and a light
lunch are planned.
The workshops range from
landscape painting, herbalist - David
Bell, Master Gardeners of London,
stone art, decoupaging a memory
box, skin care for maturing women
and organization.
There will be competition
displays including, knitting,
photography, tatting and writing, for
guests to enjoy. Also included are
some tables of enterprise for a
chance to shop.
The last date to register is June I,
however an earlier registration may
help to secure a preference of
workshops.
The Women's Institute formed in
1914 in Stoney Creek and has since
that time educated an entire nation
of women and their families in home
sciences' and has globalized as the
Associated Country Women
Worldwide.
The Institute can claim victory for
the pasteurization of milk, lines on
the highways, wrapping bread,
increasing the age of consent from
14 to 16, concise labelling for
medications and poisons, hot
lunches in schools, war work, music
singing of the hymn Happy the
Home.
The president Leona Armstrong
presided over the business. She read
a poem What is a Mother.
The minutes of the April meeting
were read and approved. The
treasurer's report was given by
Jeanne Kirkby. The roll call was
answered with everyone giving their
mother's first and middle names.
The children's rally will be held at
Camp Kintail on June 14 from 5:30 -
7:30 p.m. The Melville group has
programs for public schools, strobe
lights on school buses, to name just
a few.
The list of accomplishments is
vast and the effects of these changes
are enormous. The reach of each
branch of the Women's Institute
runs deeply within each hamlet and
village clear across Canada, as do
been asked to help. The Pietenpol
Fly-In will be at Jim and Leona
Armstrong's on June 17. This is a
fundraiser.
The Guild has been invited to
Kincardine June 27.
Dona Knight and Alice Marks
volunteered to do the Brussels Fall
Fair display.
The September meeting will be
held Sept. 12 with Jean Bewley and
Alice Marks in charge of the
devotions. Lunch was served by
Cathrine Campbell and Marg Work.
