Brussels Livestock report
Fed steers, heifers sell steady at sale
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending May
18 were 2,621 head of cattle, 792
lambs and goats.
On Tuesday the fed steers and
heifers sold steady. The choice
steers and heifers sold $94 to $98
with sale to $103.25. Second cut
sold $90 to $94. Cows sold $1 high-
er. On Thursday the veal sold $1 to
$2 lower and under pressure. The
lambs sold $5 to $10 lower. On
Friday calves and yearlings sold on
a strong active trade.
There were 499 steers on offer.
Jenny Hutchison, Wroxeter, con-
signed two steers that sold for
$103.25 averaging 1,378 lbs.

begins
new year

has started another year.
The first meeting was held at Kim
Higgins' home. Members all made
new halters with guidance from Lee
Rintoul. A big thanks is given to him
for all his help. Nominations were
held. Dan Shapton was elected pres-
ident. Travis McPherson is vice-
president, Sara Baker is secretary
and Crystal Blake is news reporter.

The first meeting for the Lucknow
beef club was hosted by one of the
leaders Brent Black on Loyal Line
Road, May 7 at 1 p.m.
The meeting was called to order
by leader Rosemary Foran.
The meeting opened with the 4-H
pledge and the attendance was
taken.
Project information sheets and the
health and safety sheets were col-
lected by the leaders.
Members were reminded to col-
lect Ivomec containers.
Rob Marriott introduced Dennis
Eagles, a senior territory manager of
animal health for Pfizer Canada Inc.
Eagles told the members many
sold averaging 1,222 lbs. for
$96.20. His top limousin heifer sold
for $98 weighing 1,265 lbs. Craig
Trelford, Dobbington, consigned
twenty heifers that sold averaging
1,364 lbs. for $95.96. His top three
black heifers sold to St. Helens

ing 1,325 lbs. Lewington Farms,
Brussels, consigned fourteen heifers

and how to determine how muscular
an animal is. He showed the mem-

tant to have a breeding heifer with a
high tail bone.
Afterwards, members had the
opportunity to judge four breeding
heifers. Eagles then explained which
heifer had the most muscle, which
had the best tail, head, legs and the
straightest shoulders.

$80 with sales to $87; medium hol-
stein, $60 to $70; heavy holstein,
$65 to $75 with sales to $77. Mike

veal steer that sold for $110 weigh-
ing 765 lbs. Brian Wideman,
