4-H members attend Auburn WI meeting
The Auburn Women's Institute
held its meeting in the Auburn
Community Hall May 18 at 1:30
p.m.
President Erma Cartwright
welcomed everyone and opened the
meeting with the Ode and Mary
Stewart Collect. 0 Canada was
sung.
Guests and some mothers of 4-H
members joined the members for a
Women Today of Huron is
sponsoring a new program for
pregnant women in Huron County.
Owen's Light is dedicated to
providing local women and families
with access to birth doula support. A
birth doula is a person trained and
experienced in childbirth who
provides continuous physical,
emotional and informational support
to the parents before, during and
immediately after birth. The doula
has no medical responsibility for the
birth, but concentrates on meeting
the family's emotional needs during
social time. Dessert and beverage
were enjoyed.
The theme of the meeting was
health. Gwen Bidwell introduced
DeeDee Herman from the Stratford
Lung Association. She spoke about
the Christmas Seal campaign, about
T.B. and that rest and healthy food
are so important. She explained that
emphysema, bronchitis • and asthma
may become chronic. These lung

Serena Hazlit, Owen's Light
volunteer co-ordinator, said that at
the present time the program has
enough money to fund 10 births.
The program will work 'only with
doulas who have obtained
certification through one of the main
doula associations. Applicant
parents will be provided with a list
of approved doulas.
Hazlit encourages doulas who are
certified to contact the program.
Hazlit facilitated the development
of this program after delivering her
problems should be identified and
sufferers should pay attention to the
warning signs.
Patients need to learn to use a
puffer properly. Special breathing
and exercise are very necessary.
Quality of air is important. Some
factors are indoor ventilation;
smoke, which even includes that
from barbecues; smog which is high
in the summer, especially near Lake

in the hospital for an extra day,"

Jerome, was very helpful in helping
me understand what was happening,
providing me with non-medical

SAVOURY FILLINGS FOR
SMALL TARTLETS
Onion and anchovy:
2 large onions, grated
2 tbsp. butter
2 hard-boiled eggs, grated
2 small tins anchovy fillets
1/2 cup 18% cream
24 small tartlets shells
Cook onion in butter until
transparent; cool. Blend with both
eggs, grated.
Drain anchovies and dice finely.
Pour in cream. Spoon into shells.
There was a display of 4-H books
and knitting from the last club.
Roll call was a- motto for good
health.
Mrs. Cartwright read a poem, The
Bed Pan.
Plans were discussed for the
District annual that will be held in
Auburn, May 29. Registration is at
9;15 a.m. Bring food for a potluck
dinner as well as a mug, dishes and
marked articles for sale.
The next meeting for the Auburn
WI members will be Junell 5.

Ham and asparagus:
1 small onion, grated
I tbsp. butter
1 cup (diced small) cooked ham
1 cup (diced small) asparagus,
cooked
1/2 cup light cream
(approximately)
24 tartlet shells
Cook onion in butter until
transparent. Blend with ham,
cooked asparagus, and the cream.
Spoon into tart shells. Bake at
350°F for 20 - 25 minutes.
PARTY MIXED NUTS
2 cups shelled skinned peanuts
1 1/2 Cups pecan halves -
1/2 cup shelled pumpkin seeds
2 tsp. cumin
3 tbsp. bottled garlic dressing
2 tsp. red pepper flakes
Toss in a large bowl and mix well
all ingredients. Spread on a cookie
sheet and bake at 350°F for 10 - 1 2
minutes. Stir well. Bake 20 minute.
