FROM WALTON
Home for a visit with Harry
and Mildred Gillis are Fred
and Lydia Dilman from
Alberta. They drove here and
stayed for a week to visit with
family and a few friends
before returning home again.
Kelly McDonald has finally
finished at the University of .
Torrinto for this year and has
arrived home.
Fire struck recently at a
barn belonging to Tim Fritz
on the Walton Road on a
Tuesday evening. The barn
housed cattle and some were
lost in the blaze, but most
managed to escape.
Friends and neighbours
assisted in rounding up the
majority. Involved in a traffic
mishap were Tim Fritz and
Bob Williamson that same
night while trying to contain
cattle. Bob was taken to
hospital but has since been
e leased.
The Walton ball park is
ready to begin a new year
with men's slopitch, men's
Eastball and ladies' slopitch.
The lights will burn bright
again at night in Walton.
Celebrating his first
birthday recently was Master
Kyle Stevenson. Kyle along
-with parents Chris and Lisa
hosted a swimming party at
Vanastra Recreation Centre
for family and friends. Kyle's
swim buddies from the
parents and tots swim
program along with many
family members enjoyed the
swim and then enjoyed
birthday cake and
refreshments in the gym for a
social playtime afterwards.
Congrats to Kyle on reaching
the milestone of one year.
I have reached the
milestone of the second week
back on the bus. Everyday I
see the ground being worked
and planted and the wheat
looking greener. The good
weather has everyone busy
with spreading manure,
cultivating and seeding and
now spraying.
Happy Anniversary wishes
to Jack and Dona Knight,
Charlie and Karin McDonald
Calhoun, Pete and Tammy
Martene and Don and Anne
Storey.
Chris and Judy Lee have
returned from a fantastic trip
to Mexico. They stayed at the
Riviera Cancun Secrets
Excellence and it was a
beautiful resort with a full
service spa. The pool was
gigantic and flowed
continuously so rubber rafts
would float around the entire
pool. The beach was also
beautiful with the Caribbean
Sea rolling in a little too
strong so that Chris lost his
very special drowning dog
hat.
For a special, treat, they
went on a Coba Mayan
Encounter. They cruised
inland waterways, canoed,
climbed, rappelled and did a
lot of walking.
They toured a Mayan
village and rappelled down a
rock hole into a cavern into a
fresh water cenote. The water
was transparent and everyone
was blessed before entering
the cenote.
They enjoyed the trip
immensely in the very hot ,
weather.
Congratulations to Don and
Monique Baan as they were
the lucky winners on CKNX
of the $2,000 Roundup
Weathermax contest.
Monique was quick on the
phone and luck was with her
when her name was picked.
Congrats to the Baans.
Rob, Brenda, Jodi and
Nicole McIntosh spent a
weekend in Manhattan, New
York. They went on tours to
the Empire State building, the
Statue of Liberty, the site of
the bombed Twin Towers, an
aircraft carrier museum, a
wax museum and much more.
They shopped and walked
the streets for miles and
Nicole reports it's "quite a
place."
Congratulations to Mike
Bernard and Rachel deBoer
on the birth of Madison, their
tiny wee daughter. Proud
grandparents are Carmen and
Mary Bernard and Fred and
Rose deBoer.
She's been a busy little girl
out celebrating Mother's Day
at two dihners and going out
to a birthday party. She's
going to keep Mom on the run
if she's already that popular.
Returning from a trip to Las
Vegas are Clint and Judy
Emmrich. They spent a.
fantastic week in near I00°F
weather trudging the streets of
Vegas.
They bought day passes for
the buses as well because
what seemed close was not.
The casinos were huge and
Judy reports almost getting
lost more than once while
trying to find the restaurants,
which were always in the
back of the casinos.
They saw the Howie
Mandel show as well as other
comedy acts. They saw the
American Super Stars
impersonator show and had a
great time. They met Elvis on
the street but he refused to
have his picture taken.
Judy reports that the
casinos and gambling were
fun, but retirement is not just
around the corner. They don't
call Las Vegas — lost wages
for nothing. -
They had a great time and
are glad to be home to
somewhat cooler weather.
-It's going to be a long
summer for a couple of young
men from Walton. Darryl
Houston fell from a ladder
