It was a high-scoring contest May
16, when the Ethel Mites hosted
their Blyth counterparts.
The visitors took this one by a
score of 19-15.
It was the first game of the season
for the Ethel squad and coaching
staff say both teams showed great
teamwork.
Sharing the duties on the mount
for Blyth were Isaac Baker and
Pearson Smith. Taking a turn behind
the plate were Sarah Dillon and
Owen Hamilton.

On Wednesday morning, 17 were
out for Senior men's day. Alone in
top spot was Bob Gavreluk with
Grant Currie and Bill Johnston tied
for second. Only one "birdie" was
recorded and that was on the second
as Gord Cerson had a two on the
par three hole. •

Wednesday night saw 21 on hand
for men's night action. In the A
flight Roger Keay with a 41 had low
gross with low net going to Dan
Campbell.
In the B flight Dean Tiffin, with a
hot round, came in with a 39 for top
low gross honours with Gerry
Edwards grabbing low net award.
Skins were won by Dean Tiffin
with a birdie on number two and by
Dean Newson with a birdie on
number three.
Closest to the pin awards were
Dean Tiffin on number two, Gerry
Sparling's field was the setting for
the second game of the season for
Blyth Lightning's co-ed U-13 soccer
team, on May 18. Lightning's
opponents were from Seaforth.
Greg Roetcisoender played a
fantastic first half in net. He made
numerous saves as he dove for the
ball to defend his net on yet another
rainy night.
Seaforth was first to get on the
scoreboard, after Roetcisoender
made a nice save way out in front of
his goal line. Seaforth kept digging
for the slipperY ball and was able to
score.
It wasn't long, however before
Blyth was on the scoreboard. Blyth's
goalie had a nice goal kick up the
field, then Brent Drost received the
kick and scored. Blyth continued to
work hard and halfback Brendon
Boven kicked the ball up the field
earning assists on the next two goals
that were scored by Drost. The final
goal before half-time was scored by
Edwards on number four and Joel
Riley on number nine.
Noticed several new faces out to
enjoy the fellowship and fun.

Numbers in Buffs Thursday
night crew were down due to
weather and many of the golfers
involved with Wingham
Hockeyville.
Mark Foxton, with a 40, took top
honours. Doug Rathwell, with a par
on the fourth hole, cleaned house
getting all the skins. Good to see
Doug Rienhardt out for the first
"time and Russ Danbrook with the
crops in, out enjoying the golf
game.

This Sunday, May 28 is going to
be a busy one at the club. It will be
the scene of the first annual golf ball
drop at 3 p.m. with proceeds to the
Wingham Physician Recruitment
Committee to support recruiting
initiatives to bring more doctors to
the Wingham and District Hospital.
Tickets are available from the
Wingham and Area Chamber of
Alex Raynard after she took the pass
from a goal kick by Roetcisoender.
Blyth was ahead 4-1 at halftime.
Alec Lorentz did a great job as
goalkeeper in the last half of the
game. Drost scored after he got the
ball away from a Seaforth player,
who had just intercepted a pass up
the field from Roetcisoender.
Seaforth scored the next goal.
Blyth's halfback, Katie Packer
kept digging for the ball and
advanced the ball towards the
Seaforth net. She did her part to help
Blyth keep the ball in Seaforth's
defensive end, so that Boven could
take a beautiful shot from past the 18
yard line and kick the ball into the
top corner of the net to score.
Lorentz had to stand up to a
penalty kick after Blyth had a hand
ball in the crease. Seaforth managed
to get the ball into the corner of the
net and scored. Seaforth kept the
pressure on and never gave up and
went on to score two more goals to
Commerce or at the golf club.
Then follows the beef and pork
barbecue from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

tighten up the score in the game.
The Lightning won the game with
a 6-5 victory.
Coach Lauren Bournan said that
the Lightning had a very strong first
half, but they need to keep playing a
strong second half so they don't give
up their lead.
On May 16, Blyth Thunder's U-
11 soccer team, parents and siblings
travelled to Lucknow for the .second
week in a row. For this Tuesday
evening game their opponents were
Lucknow I.
Jan Pali] VanDorp started in net for
Blyth. He did an excellent job as
goalkeeper standing up to all the
Lucknow players.
Lucknow's first goal was scored
on a breakaway from one of their
speedy forwards. Lucknow was able
to score two more goals before the
half time whistle blew.
Blyth had some scoring
opportunities, but they couldn't
seem to get past Lucknow's strong
defensive lines to score a goal.
Lucknow was ahead 3-0 at half time.
After the five-minute half-time,
Blyth got its second wind and played
an excellent second half. VanDorp
scored the first goal after getting the
ball away from a Lucknow player.
The Thunder kept the pressure on as
Julia Tyler and Brittany Boyce
passed the ball up the -field towards
the Lucknow net. VanDorp received
the pass and scored his second goal.
Lucknow was able to get another
goal but it wasn't long before Megan
Hoggart passed the ball to VanDorp
who scored.
Parents and fans were treated to a
very exciting and close game.
In the last minute of the game,
Lucknow scored again to end the
game with a 5-3 victory.
Leendert VanDorp made many
nice saves covering Blyth's net
during the last half of the game.
Coach Anne-Beth VanDorp was
very pleased with the effort and
determination the whole team
played during this game.
