THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MAY 25, 2006. PAGE 3.
Many Edgar relatives gathered at
the home of Don Edgar over the
weekend. Everyone enjoyed
fireworks and little children enjoyed
sparklers on Sunday night. We have
gathered at the home farm for over
50 years. Many generations have
enjoyed canoeing, pitching
horseshoes, golf, walks through the
bush, playing games and lots of

On April 25, during the second
reading debate in the legislature,
NDP health critic Shelly Martel
(Nickel Belt) opposed the bill.
"1, for one, coming from a
small community - that has only
one pharmacy. do not want to
see that pharmacy affected.
Many people. especially seniors
in my community, rely heavily on
it. The next one is not for a
number of miles away, and I don't
want to see it impacted in a negative
light, as I'm worried that many
community pharmacies will be with
respect to the legislation," stated
Martel.
In discussing the role of the
pharmacy in the community, Taylor
stated that especially in rural areas
underserviced by family physicians,
the pharmacist often is the first
reminiscing.
Special guests who have attended
many years are Helen Stonehouse
and Irlma Edgar of Wingham and
Mary and Mait Edgar of Petrolia.
Many attend on Sunday and camp
on the lawn or sleep wherever there
is a space. Monday is the special day
as many get up early to play golf and
return for a barbecue lunch and an
afternoon of fun and games. A
potluck supper is enjoyed before
everyone goes their separate ways.
Those attending were from
Aylmer, Belgrave, Blyth, Brigden,
Clinton, London, Lucknow, Petrolia,
Tavistock and Wingham.

or not it is necessary to travel the

help.
This is something that Bill 102
addresses, but it requires
pharmacists to take additional

Most in attendance had enjoyed a

The children were learning more
about camping after spending the
night at the church camping in the
basement.
The scriptures were from I John 5:

was read with everyone singing the
refrain.
Rev. Robin McGauley invited
Barb Knox from the board of Camp
Menesetung to come and tell of her
courses. This is difficult for
pharmacists in areas remote from
teaching centres.
"The government is increasing the
amount it pays for prescriptions up
to $7, but the association has

Knox spoke of the history of the
United Church camp. The camp has
gone through many changes in the
past few years, such as a new septic

She invited everyone to have a

prescription are over $10. I have
been charging the same amount for
filling prescriptions ($7.49) since I
opened 14 years ago," Taylor
said.
Taylor does not anticipate the
predicted closing of 300
independent pharmacies to occur
immediately after the bill is
implemented, but that the closures
would happen over time.
Taylor is concerned about the
impact the bill will have on the level
of service he is able to the Blyth
community.
