Duizer, "and I was not able to show
it to her.
"I was extremely close to my
mother, as were my children, and
this became part of the healing
process.
"My husband and children came
up with words that described my
mother, and I worked them into a
crossword puzzle because she was
an avid fau of crosswords.
-It was good to be doing the work
at that time, but I was glad when it
was done."
"Barbara Kerr's mother also
passed away while she was working
on her rug," Duizer added.
A book, printed with the artists'
explanation of how the rugs express
their understanding of their mothers'
lives will be on sale at the museum
after May 14.
"Some of the 60 rugs accepted will
be juried to become a travelling
exhibition to other museums," said
Dui zer.
The opening reception is from 2
p.m. - 4 p.m., at Bruce County
Museum and Cultural Centre. 33
Victoria St., Southampton. Sundays
the museum is open from 1 p.m. -5
p.m.

Hooked rugs from five members
of the Holmesville's Y2K Rug Bugs
are among the 60 rugs in the
Memories of My Mother exhibit at
the Bruce County Museum and
Cultural Centre, Southampton.
The exhibit opens with a reception
Mother's Day afternoon and runs
until September 2006.
Patti Armstrong, Zurich; Marjorie
Duizer, Londesborough; Margaret
Gruber, Holmesville; Barbara Kerr,
Belgrave and Carol McDonnell,
Blyth, are the local women whose
works are included in the exhibit.
Gwen Becker and Sybil Mercer,
Southampton teachers of
rughooking, have been working on
this project for three years.
Invitations for submissions were
sent to artists across Canada.
The rugs express some aspect of
the creator's understanding of her
mother.
