Continued from page 1
people in Toronto during the rally.
"Three girls from the University
of Toronto came around with a cou-
ple of coffees and muffins. I know
students don't have a lot of money
and it meant a lot that they went into
Tim Horton's and spent $10 or $20
to support us."
He said Stephen Webster, the
Blyth-area farmer who left his home
and parked his car near Queen's
Park, refusing to leave until some-
thing is done to help farmers, was
offered the use of a condo from the
teacher's union.
"His car is parked in Howard
Hampton's spot (after Hampton,
leader-of the NDP, offered it to him)
and,.on top of it, I saw two big boxes
of sandwiches donated from a deli
down the street," he said.
"The only people we aren't getting
support from is the politicians."
Linton said he is sick and tired of
Carol Mitchell and Paul Steckle and
doesn't get the impression that they
are representing the needs of farm-
ers.
"I'm tired of hearing about food
tax and these other things. Either
help us or get out of the way," he
said
When the budget was announced,
Linton said the farmers from the
rally were heading back home on the
bus.
"It really knocked the wind out of
everyone's sails," he said, about
hearing the budget on the radio. "I
think if anyone was expecting [an
increase] they would have been act-
ing very naive. But I don't think we
expected that much of a cut."
He said before the rally he worked
for a couple of hours on the farm
before leaving on the bus at 8 a.m.
then had lots to do when he arrived
back home late that evening.
"I don't know how much longer
farmers can keep protesting. We're
going to be planting soon," he said.
Linton said if Webster asked him,
he would advise him to go home.
"He's only hUrting himself at this
point. He has his own farm to worry
about."
He added that Webster is like a
local hero in this area.
Dombrowsky said the Ontario
government is calling on the federal
government to "join us at the table,
as a full partner."
Linton said he is frustrated with
the lack -of leadership in the govern-
ment.
"It's like asking your mother for
help and she tells you to talk to your
father and then your father says the
same thing," he said.
"There's a problem. We've tried to
get [politicians'] attention and it
doesn't seem to be working," *-
Another rally is planned for-April
5, in Ottawa.
