THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MARCH 30, 2006. PAGE 11.
Well, I was right. Once the news of
the sighting of the Walton cougar
was out, more information was
surfaced. Although Ross Bennett did
not actually see the cougar, he had
many tracks at his house and they
headed directly towards the south —
and maybe the McIntosh residence,
as he saw the tracks about three
weeks ago.
Ross has many animals that cruise
his backyard and he has become very
familiar with the tracks. He says
these tracks were a wide dog-like
paw track, but with the impressions
of fur marks around them.
It's going to be harder now that the
The Walton Hall was a very busy
place on the weekend as Duff's
United ChurCh held its Raise the
Roof auction.
Downstairs- at the Hall there was a
great display of items for children
for the penny auction. Some small
cafe tables, to sit and enjoy a drink
and a hot dog or sandwich, were set
up for everyone to enjoy. There was
lots of visiting and chatting.
Upstairs, close to 200 items were
displayed on tables and walls.
The silent auction finished up
around 7:15 p.m. and the live
auction started at 7:30 p.m.
snow is gone to find tracks, but keep
your eyes open for the cougar.
Christmas came again at our
household a little after the fact for
Scott. He had received tickets to the
Ottawa Senators versus Buffalo
Sabres game for Christmas and that
was Friday night. Scott and his
girlfriend Alicia, travelled to Buffalo.
New York to watch his favourite
Senators play. They saw a good
game with Ottawa winning 3-1.
Scott reports that crossing the
border into the States at Niagara
Falls was uneventful — a driver's
licence and a good reason for
entering the States was all that was
needed. Finding the arena wasn't too
hard nor was finding how to get back
to the border after.
What was funny, was that it costs
$1 to leave the States. Guess I'm
behind the times. I thought departure
tax was just charged at airports. Well,
you learn something every day.
The Walton Hall board hosted a
roast beef dinner on Sunday to cap
off the weekend. The turnout for the
dinner was fantastic with over 100

enjoying the meal.
Ross Bennett filled in at the door
this time and Joan Tuchlinsky and
Bethany Black were great- table
servers.
The hall board group of Leona
McDonald, Judy Emmrich, Judy
Lee, Barb Durell and Jo-Ann
McDonald are still working hard to
keep the hall on the plus side and
make more improvements. It's a
great little building and has many
uses for the smaller functions.
Congratulations to Jacob
McGavin, who was a winner at the
Royal Canadian Legion District
public speaking event last week.
Jacob advanced from the school level
speaking to the Brussels Legion
level, defeating five other speakers.
He then advanced to Zone level
speaking against 12 others to qualify
for District level. He competed
against three other speakers from
across the District to earn the right to
advance to Area level speaking. He
will "be going to Toronto for
competition on April 23. --
Congratulations to Walton's Jacob

We wish all speedy recoveries.
It is more like spring as I write,
laundry blowing out on the line,
birds singing and flies buzzing
madly in the windows.
For those gardeners out there, I
know of one person who has planted
lettuce and spinach in her garden
patch already. She claims that she
will have a crop before you know it
and if snow comes again it won't
hurt it at all.
Celebrating anniversaries this
past couple of weeks were Robert

Sherry McCall, Ken and Anne
Williamson and Lorne and Bonnie
Glanville.
Congratulations to all couples.
"cappella quartet performed to
everyone's enjoyment. They also
performed between the end of the
silent auction and the start of the live
auction.
The group also had their CD
available for anyone to purchase.
The fundraising group of Judy
Lee, Betty McCallum, Glenda
Morrison and Marie McGavin did an
absolutely marvellous job. They had
many helpers including Val Pethick,
Susan Gerber and girls running the
penny table; Phyllis Mitchell, Jamie
Mitchell, Brian McGavin and Lorne
and Bonnie Glanville helping with
the lunch booth; Donna McClure,
Heidi McClure, Monique Baan and
Marcie Campbell helping with the
silent and live auction.
