Scotch doubles on ice is a four- person curling game with no sweeping allowed except behind the T-line. No one has to worry about keeping up to a take-out shot. It is a shorter game taking only an hour to play, with only six rocks per team and six ends per game. Each team is made up of two curlers — each person skips one end and leads in the alternate end. The advantage is that there's no need to walk down the ice in the middle of an end and risk slipping. It is proving very popular as two couples or a foursome can play a quick game in an hour. An added plus is no sweeping. Who will be the first to try this new game at our local club? *** In the daytime league on Monday all teams must have had their eye on top spot as the games were oh so close. Bill Deans edged Glenn McMichael 9-8. John Mann enjoyed an extra end win over Les Shaw. Other results were: Ron McMichael 8, Alex Nethery 5; S. Leedham 7, Irving Elliott 3; W. Stamper 11, N. Frank 4 and Jim Coultes downing Bruce Robertson 7-6 after an eighth-end measurement that was close. Jim's rock got the nod. In Thursday night play it was A. Nethery 8, Bill Deans 3; W. Stamper 11, L. Shaw 5; B. Robertson 9, Ivan Dow 8; J. Mann 11, J. Coultes 6; R. McMichael 10, N. Frank 5 and G. McMichael 10, Elliott 7. Brussels Tykes travelled to Hensal! for the year-end playoff tournament. Brussels' first game was against Blyth, in what proved to be an intense contest. Brussels scored first off the stick of Nic Zwep. Blyth came back to even the score. Logan Kellington put Brussels back in the lead but with one minute remaining-Blyth tied it up. The time clock ran out and five- minutes overtime was set. No goals were scored so a shootout was started. Zwep scored, then Blyth scored. Blyth tried against to get one past goalie Dawson Peachy, then Delayna Smith had a mighty shot to win the game. Brussels went on to play Seaforth and lost 6-0. Tiffany Deitner played great in net. The team went on to the B finals and lost 7-0 to Zurich.
