their rivals, the Kitchener Rangers,
who were one point higher than the

season. The game ended in a 3-1
On Tuesday, March 14 the
Brussels Novice team travelled to
Hanover for game one of the B
finals.
Hanover would own the first
period by netting three goals.
Early in the second Kai Hiemstra
gave the visitors something to cheer
about as he cut the lead to 3-1.
Hanover responded to that goal
and took a three-goal lead into the
final period.
Wyatt Ducharme made it 4-2 from
Lexi Smith but that was as chose as
Brussels came.
Trailing 1-0 in the series, Brussels
played host the following night.
As in game one, Hanover came
out strong, taking a 2-0 lead into the
second period. Hanover struck again
in the middle frame.
Early in the third Logan Clark set
up Hiemstra to make it 3-1. Hanover
survived the Brussels assault and
headed home for game 3 up two
games to none.
The Blyth PeeWee Bulldogs
travelled to Sunderland, on
Saturday, for game three in their trek
to the All Ontario crown. From the
drop of the puck it was clear the
Dogs meant business. Fans were
treated to a fast and furious game.
Although the boys seemed to have
the game in hand Sunderland scored
first, but, not until 10:09 in the
second period. Blyth goalie Willie
Haines practically stood on his head
to keep his team in the game.
After a lot of hard work, Tyler
Stevenson poked one past the
Wings' netminder with just over two

Five minutes into the third
homeside evened the score. Minutes
later Hanover pushed ahead 2-1.
With time under five minutes in
the third, Hiemstra skated out of his
zone and beat both Hanover
defencemen to roof the tieing goal
and keep Brussels alive. Just over a
minute later Ducharme went coast to
coast to give Brussels a 3-2 lead.
With Hanover buzzing, Hiemstra put
it away with a pair of goals, the
second one assisted by Mitch
Kellington.
Brussels won 5-2.
The following night in Brussels in

one past the Ranger goalie for the
final goal, with the assist going to
Alison Quennell.
The Lightning will meet three
tough teams in the provincial
championships.
Their first opposition will be
Ottawa, Brampton and Cobourg.
They must place first or second in
their pool to advance to the next
round.
Early in the middle frame Hruska,
from Kellington, tied it. Midway
through the period Kellington gave
the homeside the lead, then less than
a minute later Clark fed Hiemstra
who made it a 3-1 lead.
The third period would be Matt
McNichol's time to shine as he made
many big stops in the Brussels net.
So the hosts would knot the series at
two apiece with the win.
Game five this past Friday night in
front of a packed Brussels arena was
a game that would live up to its
hype. Both McNichol and the
Hanover goalie stole the show for
the first 30 minutes of the game with
each making big stops for their
teams.
With just under five minutes left in
the third Hruska netted a Kellington
pass to give the homeside a 1-0 lead.
Less than a minute later Hiemstra
scored. Brussels held on to the lead
