The executive of the Brussels
Legion Branch met on Tuesday
evening. There was a great deal of
business to be discussed as well as
many requests for funds from
different venues.
The month of February reported a
profit and the upcoming month of
April is very busy.
The painting in the bar room was
completed and I must have been
confused on the front and back
foyers. The back foyer was the focus
after all and it looks great. Now the
paint crew is moving to the front
foyer. We can almost see the end of
the project for now but it does look
nice.
Brussels Agromart held a gathering
at the Branch on Thursday. They
served sausage and pancakes to their
many attendees and had displays set
up around the room. The turnout
looked great and the food smelled
delicious.
The Friday night supper of mock
cabbage rolls was enjoyed by a great
crowd. This week is chicken and rice.
The Brussels Cadet Corps held a
teen dance at the Branch Friday
night. Over 60 youths were present.
The six adult chaperones reported
very little trouble and a really good
group of young people.
Saturday's euchre only had six
tables of people at play. Taking
advantage of the good chance of
winning were Clarence Hoy and
Norine Park with 77 points for first.
Second-place winners were Sandra
and Charlie Cameron with 66 points
and third place was shared by pairs
Bob Regele and Bill Siemon, and
Helen Dobson and Mabel Willis.
Low prize went to Janet Mathers and
Irlma Edgar, Low hand prizes went to
Delores Howatt and Stuart Chamney.
Euchre is every two weeks.
The Sunday night dance featured
the Red Rascal Band. A crowd of
over 100 enjoyed the music and
lunch. We are still accepting pop can
tabs and appreciate all those who
collect.
A reminder to all Comrades that
the auction is the first weekend in
May. Auction sheets, and or items,
are due into the Branch prior to April
30. Give the organizers a chance to
get things recorded and labelled.
Save us the phone calls and drop
things off early.
The Branch is planning a Mother's
Day dinner and like last year,
reservations can be made. Tickets
will be available soon.

The tundra swans are in the area
making their annual trip north to
announce to the rest of us that spring
really is on the way. This very large
bird is .a wonder to watch as it lifts
off and becomes as-graceful as a
butterfly. The call of nature really is
a miracle.
Nora Stephenson along with Alma
and Ralph Watson travelled to
Burlington last week to say hello to
the Johnston family. Al and Joyce
and their children called the United
Church manse home in the 1960s
and they left many good memories
for our community. After a good
fight with cancer this memorial
service was a great send off for
Joyce into her next life.
Memories are being shared and
good stories being told this week as
family and friends of David Boynton
grasp their reality. David died on
Sunday.
The Boyntons came to our village
in the early 1980s when the twins
were young boys and the CIL was up
Thursday evening. The first-place
team was Mary Dickinson and Harry
Smith. In second place was
Lawrence Machan.
There were three teams with four
wins and after the playoff the last
place team was Jim Brown and
Sandra Josling.
The high-shots were 121 by Gord
Jacklin and 112 by Sandra. The high
start was by Harry with 80.
Darts are every Thursday at 8 p.m.
Rebekahs
host party
A good crowd enjoyed a casserole
supper and euchre -sponsored by
Morning Star Rebekah Lodge.
Winners of the door prizes were
Anna Cunningham and Lois
McCall. Share-the-wealth winners
were Ross Cunningham and Olive
Little.
There were nine tables of
enthusiastic euchre players with the
following winners: high lady, Joyce
Triebner; high man, Joann
McDonald; low man, Ralph
Triebner; low lady, Olive Little;
lone hands, Beryl Smith, Gordon
Gross; tally winners, Mary
Davidson, Viola Adams, Bush
Whittard, Eleanor Stevenson,
Bernice Gross, Alvin McDonald,
