It's Showbiz at Festival's season launch
Two vibrant Canadian musicians
Stephen Fearing and Juanita Wilkins
launch the Blyth Festival's 2006
season on Saturday, April
22 at Memorial Hall.
Artistic director Eric Coates said
"Stephen Fearing is one of the most
inspiring and talented
singer/songwriters in Canada and he
performs brilliantly in concert. And
Juanita Wilkins has really hit her
stride. It's just a thrill to see her
career take off like this."
Fearing will be performing songs
from his new album, due out this
spring. Don't miss this chance to see
him on the eve of his departure for a
major European tour.
A four-time Juno nominee for his
solo work, Fearing won a Juno with
his roots band Blackie and the Rodeo
Kings, along with bandmates Colin
Linden, and Tom Wilson.
Opening for Fearing is
independent recording artist, Juanita
Wilkins of Wellington County.
Showbiz is the launch for the
Blyth Festival's 2006 season. This
Canadian theatre company
celebrates its 100th world premiere
this summer. Hear great music while

Toastmasters hosts event
Conversation promises to be lively
when Clinton Communicators
Toastmasters Club hosts its open
house on March 28 at the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and
Rural Affairs office, 100 Don St.,
Clinton.
The club invites anyone interested
in improving their public speaking
and leadership skills to join in a
regular meeting. Guests will hear
speeches from long-time members
and newcomers to the club. They
will learn how members improve
their skills in a supportive
environment.
And they will be invited to take
part in a round of short, impromptu
speeches, if they so choose.
"At Toastmasters, our members
lose their fear of public speaking and
learn skills that help them in
whatever path they've chosen in life.
They learn not just how to deliver
better speeches, but how to organize
their thoughts in order to better
communicate in job interviews,
buSiness meetings and even personal
relationships," said Sandra Billson,
president, Clinton Communicators.
Over coffee, tea • and goodies,
guests will hear testimonials from
members who learned at
Toastmasters how to make better
presentations, improve their
listening skills, lead teams and

Winning performance
Perish took top prize in a battle of the bands presented by
Wildfong Entertainment in Clinton Legion on Saturday. Band
members are guitarist Joshua Gropp, of Brussels and
Toronto (left), bassist Thomas Ireland, Teeswater (right),
drummer Rob McKercher, formerly of Brussels now of
Goderich, and vocalist Shaun Henry, formerly of Blyth now
of Goderich. All four are graduates of F.E. Madill Secondary
School, Wingham. The prize was $650. Bands were judged
on many things including stage presence, musicianship,
songwriting ability, technical ability, audience participation
and audience reaction. The crowd also played a part in
determining the winner as response was taken into
consideration. Gropp said they had a blast playing with all
the bands and are excited to put the money to use by
ordering some merchandise like hooded sweatshirts for
their fans. "We had a great time as always." The band plays
