Sports Brussels, Blyth Tykes have busy weekend Brussels Tykes had a hockey filled weekend starting Friday night against Blyth II. Wyatt Machan started scoring with the assist going to Dawson Peachey. The second period had a lot of action with Brandon Marshall It was the end of the road for Blyth Atoms as Embro put them out of OMHA contention with a clean sweep in Blyth, March 9. All the team played well showing coaches Gerry Zwep and Ron Stevenson what they have learned. Saturday afternoon the Brussels Tykes travelled to Zurich. Peachey put Brussels on the board with the assist going to Zwep. Zurich followed with two goals, then Zwep got hold of the puck to tie the game with the assist going to It was a special experience for a Brussels-area teen recently when she com- peted in the skating comp- etition at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton. Tina Ropp, 19, a student at Fanshawe is a member of London's synchronized skating team. - The 22-member group competed in the Festival Open class against six other teams. Their short program was African, while the long was Fairies. They finished fourth overall. Ropp is in her sixth year of skating Christopher Van Veen. Zurich came back with two goals to beat Brussels 4-2. Deitner had fans on the edge of their seats with her amazing goaltending. Brussels takes on Blyth I on Saturday in Brussels at 10 a.m. On Saturday, March 11 the Blyth Tyke Its travelled to Wingham. Wingham scored the first goal but Dawson Coultes, with an assist from Sydney Wightman, was quick to put Blyth on the scoreboard. Wingham came back to score one but Marshall, with an assist from Franklin Marshall, tied the game. Blyth pulled ahead when Rodger, with a pass from Shelby Higgins, scored to make it 3-2. Blyth stayed strong and Coultes assisted by Hubbard put Blyth up by two. The final score was 4-2. Owen Andrews had a strong game in net. for the Brussels Skating Club. She was coached by Faye MacDonald and has achieved her Gold skills and is working on her gold Dance and Free Skate. She had been a member of the Wingham synchronized skating club for two years, which was coached by Michele Blake.
