Well dust off your Irish duds,
you'll need them ready for Friday.
Once a year that little bit of Irish in
us rises to the surface and comes out
our toes. So be ready for the wearing
of the green and a little bit of
spontaneous dancing on March 17.
March break has begun; rather it's
in progress. You can just feel the
extra energy as the school crowd
enjoys their free time. Too early for
spring stuff, too late for the winter
things that are now old. It's now
officially time just to have fun.
I'm sure in lots of homes
sleepovers are part of the plans. So
get your fun hats out Grandma and
Grandpa for the grandkids are
coming. It's such fun to do things
with the grandchildren that do not
have parental approval. That in itself
makes up for all the days as a parent
you didn't think you were cut out for
this job. So enjoy the time and be
sure to do all the fun stuff.
Skating is done for another year on
the world's longest skating rink — the
Rideau Canal in Ottawa. I've lost the
paper that reported the number of
St. John
Ambulance
'V Aid with CPR
starting
Monday,
March 27th
at Brussels Fire Hall

Betty to register
skaters this year but 850,000 is the
number I seem to recall. Now that's
a lot of skate blades.
Don't forget to thank the farmers
in our midst for feeding us. As we
reflect on the blessings in our lives
we need to be active in our gratitude
for by their living we are well fed.
Stop now and see what you can do to
help.
As we say goodbye to the
blizzards of winter, hopefully, I have
one last thank you to the Brussels
street cleaners. Each one of you is a
joy to watch each snowy morning.
It's like a well-staged dance. The
snow is moved into rows by the
plows and blowers, the rows are
lined up on the street, the trucks are
blown full and are whisked away to

What has been a great tobogganing spot for young and old during the winter is now a

FROM BRUSSELS
At the Branch
Sanding
on
week's
agenda
By Jo-Anne McDonald
The objective this past week at the
Brussels Legion was to get the
sanding done in the lounge. This
week, it's hoped volunteers will get
some paint on the walls downstairs.
The new lights were put in as well
for the small card room and -now the
comments are they are too bright.
Sports chairman Rick McDonald
attended the Zone sports meeting in
Goderich on Monday evening. He
brought the summer sports schedule
home.
This Saturday, March 18, the
Brussels Branch will host the
District Public Speaking event.
There wiH be four speakers in the
four divisions including storytelling
Grades 1-3, junior division Grades
4-6, senior division Grades 7 and 8
and high school division. The four
speakers in each division are
representative winners of the four
zones included in this District of the
Legion area.
The Brussels Branch is very proud
to have two speakers who advanced
from school to Branch to Zone and
now to District. Representing the
Brussels Public School and the
Brussels Legion are Jacob McGavin
in the junior division and Mercedes
TenPas in senior division.
This will be a fantastic afternoon
of speaking and the public iS invited
to attend. Speeches beginning at 1
p.m.
The Friday night supper of roast
pork was enjoyed by a great crowd.
This week is Friday, March 17, St.
Patrick's day so it's Irish stew on the
menu.
There were 13 tables of euchre
players on hand on Saturday. The
first-place team was Jo-Anne
McDonald and Dorothy Carter
earning 84 points. In second place
were Rita Flynn and Verna Gibbings
scoring 74 points. Harry and Grace
Smith were close behind scoring 73
points.
The low prize went to Lorna and
Ethel scoring only 47 points. The
lone-hand winners were Charlie
Johnston and Sally Hinz.
There were door prizes and lunch
served following play.
Sunday night dancers enjoyed the
music of the John Heaman Band.
Oyer 100 attended and the floor was

Dances are every two weeks.

parts unseen, to return and repeat the
dance. Oh the magic of it all.
So thank you for those early
morning hours that are often unseen,
but very much appreciated. Enjoy
the upcoming snowless months
knowing we're waiting for you next
winter. Thank you.
Enjoy the anticipation of spring as
we do the pondering that comes with
the season of Lent.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
