The Citizen, 2006-03-09, Page 23The Goderich Co-op Gallery is
fast becoming the best source for
local art in the region. Operating on
the Square in Goderich for the past
four years, the Co-op Gallery brings
together local talented artists
producing collectible oils, acrylics,
watercolours, pottery, wood-carving,
fabric art and bronze sculpture.
In addition to the 22 members who
are featured there regularly, the
Gallery also has monthly exhibitions
by non-members. Featured for
February and March are talented
young artists from Goderich District
Collegiate and featured for April will
be Goderich native Sally McEwan.
An acrylic exhibition of the

donates posters
Through the generous donation of
Bill and Susan Howson, the Blyth
Festival's beautifully framed posters
will adorn the walls of Huron
County libraries starting this spring.
"Since the theatre's beginnings,
Bill and Susan Howson have been
collecting the theatre's posters and
framing them for display in their
home," said Jane Gardner, general
manager of the Blyth Festival.
"They offered us their collection and
we thought the posters would be a
great addition to our local libraries
so we gave county librarian Beth
Ross a call. She agreed to distribute
them throughout the libraries in our
region to decorate the walls of our
community libraries."
Huron County libraries in
Bayfield, Blyth, Brussels, Clinton,
Exeter, Fordwich, Gorrie, Goderich,
Hensall, Kirkton, Seaforth,
Wingham and Zurich will display
the Festival's posters.
Over the theatre's 33-year history,
the artwork featured on the posters
of the Blyth Festival have
showcased regional artists that

Money Tips
(NC) — If you're older, your
children have grown and you
have already built up substantial
equity in your home, you may
want to free up capital by
downsizing. Moving into a
smaller, less expensive home will
provide additional cash for

Artist features `Big Skies' of Huron County
Toronto, Laviolette has enjoyed a
full and rewarding career in
psychological medicine. "I have
always loved to paint — it has fed me
spiritually and emotionally. And as a
psychotherapist, I have always been
interested in visual representation of
thoughts and feelings."
Laviolette is now transitioning
into another stage of life and is able
4o devote more energy to her artistic
endeavours. The past year has been a
joy for her as she spends more and
more time at her easel, working
primarily in acrylics. Landscapes
delight her as a continuing subject.
She explains, "The 'Big Skies' of
Huron County are a great source of
pleasure to me —the landscape is
never still, sometimes very flat and
sometimes gently undulating. The
panorama is always wonderfully
changeable over the seasons. I am
entranced with the cloud formations
as well. Additionally, the woodlands
hold my attention with their many
interpretations of the seasons and the
wild flowers in all their profusion."
The current exhibition at the
Goderich Co-op Gallery in March
features Huron County as well as
landscapes painted from
photographs by John Bowen taken
on a recent trip to England and
Wales. Laviolette holds this theme
dear as she continues to revisit
wonderful memories_ of her own
experiences there.
For more information, Laviolette
can be reached at- 565-2454,
