A meeting regarding a youth park
coming to Blyth was held at Susan
Howson's house on Tuesday, Feb.
28.
Several members of the
community were present including
Ian Godfrey who spoke about his
experience running a skateboard
shop in the UK as well as organizing
a skateboarding competition.
Godfrey has a woodworking
background and offered to help with
advice on building ramps and other
equipment needed.
Howson said the committee
behind building the park is at a
standstill for applying for grants
currently.
"We can't apply for the grants
until we finish the budget and we
can't finish the budget until we have
all of the figures," she said.
Patterson, Bernice McClinchey and
Marie Bromley.
The next euchre is March 13 at
7:30 p.m. in the Legion Hall. Come
out and enjoy the fun and
fellowship.
BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on March 5 were Fred Meier,
Randy Fraser and Barb and Terry
Richmond.
Everyone was invited to come
early for coffee and juice during
Lent. Ushering were Elaine
Brown, Lois van Vliet, Joann
MacDonald and Terry Richmond.
Guest organist was Margaret Kai.
Cheryl Cronin led the singing of
some favourite hymns while
everyone gathered for church.
Emily Phillips gave some facts
about the LHIN (Local Health
Integration Networks) and urged
There was a quote from Rocket
Signs from Wroxeter for a sign
which would have park rules written
on it. The ballpark figure was $300-
400 for a four by eight foot sign.
This figure depends on the number
of advertisers who 'want graphics,
Howson said.
Some fundraising opportunities
suggested at the meeting included a
walk-a-thon, selling poultry and
cheese, a car wash and a battle of the
bands event.
"We really need help fundraising,"
Howson said.
Howson said she spoke with OPP
Const. Jeff Walraven regarding
policing the walk-a-thon.
"He said we could have adults and
teenage boys blocking the area
where cars aren't allowed instead of
police officers," she said.
She is hoping local OPP officers
will attend the walk-a-thon.
Insurance for the event is covered,
everyone to send a letter to their
local MPP to request that the
government not move on the final
reading of Bill 36 until there has
been proper public consultation.
The invitation to worship was
repeated responsively.
The choir sang an anthem, Sweet
Hour of Prayer.
Rev. Robin McGauley asked the
children to come to the front for
their storytime and to bring
the baskets of food for the food
bank from the narthex along with
them.
The congregation sang the hymn,
Tree of Life, during which a symbol
Lent, (a loaf of bread) was brought
to the front of the church.
Rev. McGauley told the story of
how bread sustained Jesus while He
was on the mountain.
Rev. McGauley had a red sash and
she said.
The walk-a-thon will be held on
Saturday, June 3 at 9:30 a.m. Ads are
expected to be in the school
newsletters this month and next
month, she said.
"We really need to get more kids
involved," Howson added. She said
she hopes the notices in the schools
will help.
A date to start building has not
been set yet. The committee agreed
not to start until they raised $8,000.
Currently they have $6,000 and are
expecting to have $8,000 before
May.
The next meeting will be held on
Wednesday, March 29.
Anyone interested in volunteering
can call Mary Rouw at 523-4288,
