At the
Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The week began at the Brussels
Legion with the general meeting
being held on Tuesday evening, Feb.
28. Twelve Comrades were in
attendance.
The usual Branch business was
discussed and motions passed
concerning the financial affairs and
to pay the bills. Committee reports
included a balanced bar, a
successful public speaking event, a
successful fish fry, an upcoming
sports meeting and the Zone
convention in Lucknow.
The Huron County Dairy
Producers held their annual meeting
on Thursday at the Branch. They
were served a roast beef dinner.
The Thursday night darts had 11
in attendance. The first-place team
was Paul Gross and Gord Jacklin.
IOn second were John Stadelmann
and Kaye Smith. The high start was
by Lawrence Machan shooting 115
and the high shot was by Norm
Dobson shooting 108.
The Friday night supper of
salisbury steak was served to a good
crowd. This week is roast pork.
On Saturday, the Branch was the
meeting place for the Strictly Beef
Management Club. The group
enjoyed a roast beef dinner and the
morning and afternoon meeting
sessions. The club represents the
progressive cow calf operators of
Ontario. They discussed best
management practices, vaccines and
raising quality calves.
Two dart teams travelled to Exeter
to play District darts. They had
qualified back in December.
Congrats to he team of Ron
Schmidt, John Harrison, Anita and
Sara Little and the team of Ken and
Linda Bird, Andy Adams and Andy
Overholt.
Saturday saw public speakers
Mercedes Ten Pas, Jadob McGavin
and Hayden Ten Pas speaking in
Clinton at the Zone competition.
They all did well. Jacob McGavin,
and Mercedes TenPas will compete
in District competition at Brussels
Legion on March 18.
Comrades Norm Dobson, Charlie
and Grace Proctor attended the Zone
spring convention in Lucknow on
Sunday. The hot topics of the day
included the illegalities of hold 'ern
poker, and the prevention of break-
ins.
Elections for the Branch will be
held in April and at this point, there
has been no one step up and show
interest in becoming a new member
of the executive or to take part on
any committees.
The nominating committee will be
contacting members to see how
they can be of service to the
Branch.
Wow, sunshine! What a nice view
of the world through sunshine.
Heading into March and it already
feels different. The sky is a little
lighter at both ends of the day and

The Majestic Women's Institute
sponsored a very successful
casserole supper followed by euchre
in the Brussels Library on Thursday
evening, March 2.
Bush Whittard and Jim McNiely
received the share-the-wealth. Mary
Davidson was the winning lady and
Ralph Triebner the high scoring
man. Jean Nethery and Nat Mirotta
didn't have such good luck.
Having the most lone hands were
Jean Bewley, Bush Whittard and Jim

There were several lucky tally
winners.

The junior and intermediate playground equipment fund for Brussels Public School got a nice

nicer if and when you listen to the
weather people.. Spring is in the
distance.
The hockey parents are seeing a
little ;relief as the games are
becoming fewer and the playoffs are
in progress. It will be a quick break,
then into ball and soccer.
Lots of children and grandchildren
were visiting on the weekend
bringing joy and extra fun to the
Boynton, Workman and Graber-
Watson homes. After each visit a
gentle reminder floats over of why
children are born when we're young.
Oh yes, it's true. Happy to see them
come and sweet peace when they
leave.
And of course waiting until the
next time they visit.
Enjoy the sunshine.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
