PAGE 21. I have been on a bit of holiday — not that I went anywhere. I did get to the 95th Anniversary of the Belgrave Women's Institute which was great fun. There were approximately 50 or so out to enjoy the potluck lunch with cake and ice cream for dessert. The guests heard about Afghanistan from a gentleman who had spent some time over there. A short business meeting followed where I brought greetings from the rest of the Huron West District. As District president I announced the sewing work-shop for a jacket March 10 in Clinton. Doreen. Marks is the instructor. The cost is $7. Also announced were plans for the provincial conference, to be hosted by London Area in August. With a welcome to the District annual to be held in Auburn on May 29, my work was done and Belgrave president Audrey Fenton, resumed the meeting. Thank you ladies for a lovely afternoon and a great lunch. The Auburn community sends their sympathy to the family of Jack Armstrong, his wife Elva, son Fred, daughter Carol McDowell, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. The funeral was held Saturday, Feb.11 at Knox Church, Auburn. The Auburn Lions held a successful breakfast Feb.12. The ladies received a flower (red or white or white with a red tinge) as they were leaving as a Happy Valentine's memento. - On Feb. 15 it was bring your spouse to dinner. The guest speakers were Jack and Nancy Cameron from Lucknow area who have just returned from living in Australia for a year. Nancy was on a teaching exchange and she and Jack toured the country extensively. It was reported that a former Auburn resident attended the Super Bowl game at Detroit. Allan McDougall and Glynda Williams won the tickets at a raffle sponsored by the United Steel Union in Pittsburgh. Allan's seats were close to the field and right at the•entrance where the Steelers entered. He phoned his sister, Bernice Gross. once he had sat down so she could watch for him during the game. Knox United Church is sponsoring a silent auctibn in conjunction with a roast beef dinner on April 5. Contributions are to be left at the post office or notify Darryl Ball. The Auburn community sends its sympathy to the family of Phyllis Rodger. Her funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 25 at North Street United Church in Goderich. Phyllis and her husband Emmerson were members of the Auburn community un01 they left the family farm and moved into Goderich. Phyllis will be remembered for her beautiful singing voice and her many years or being the itinerant music teacher in the days of the one-room school. Phyllis leaves behind a large group of family and friends to mourn her passing. The Mini Pearls were hosted by fellow member Carmen Klaus at her home in Clinton recently. The ladies enjoyed a potluck lunch of magnificent proportions before they fulfilled their purpose for the meeting. With Carmen's partner, Harry Reed, safely tucked away in his office, the ladies went to work and decorated their new hats. With buttons and bows - flowers, ribbons, birds and feathers, and yes some pearls - some mini pearls. This group of hat-loving ladies have no colour restrictions to cramp their creative styles and there is no limit on their savoir-vivre. The next meeting of the Mini Pearls will be a potluck pyjama party starting at 7:30 a.m. at the home of Charlotte Anderson of Goderich. Fun stuff! Business Directory
