Dustin Pennington did his part, scoring both Blyth goals. The first came late in the first period when Dallas Coultes handed off to Ashley Higgins to set up the play. After a scoreless second, Pennington lit the light for a second time mid-way through the final period. This proved more valueable than they knew as four minutes later Brussels pulled back within one. That was the end of the scoring, however giving Blyth a one-game series lead. Game two of this best of three, played Feb. 24 in Blyth, saw Brussels eliminated by a Blyth victory. With two goals in the second period • and the game-winner in overtime, Pennington netted a hattrick to give his team a 3-2 victory. Assists went to Dylan Walton, Autumn Wightman, Coultes, Nesbitt with two and Higgins. Carey was solid between the pipes. Mites play BCH The Blyth Mites took to the ice on Saturday against BCH. Jared Shearer scored on a breakaway for Blyth's first goal of the game. Colin Howson brought the tally to two, then Drew VanWyk put Blyth up by three. After Carson Richmond just missed the net, Michaela Rodger skated in to score the fourth Blyth goal. BCH's goalie made some good saves to keep the score close, but VanWyk managed to bulge the twine from the face-off to increase the lead even further. BCH responded to cancel it, but Richmond turned around to gave his team the five-point spread yet again. Just before the buzzer to end the period, it looked as if BCH was going to tighten the gap again, hOwever, Shearer, with some solid defensive work moved in to thwart the player. VanWyk opened the third period scoring with assists from Richmond and Shearer. The latter lit the light for his second time with a breakaway to score on an empty net. BCH began to put some pressure on, coming back with two goals before Richmond snuck another by the legs of the Opponents' netminder. BCH did manage one more before the buzzer. Does it get any better? It was a sweep for the Blyth Atoms as they claimed the WOAA title in three straight games against Wallace. The contest culminated in a 6-1 victory at home on Saturday morning. Blyth will now move on to play Embro in the OMHA semi-finals.
