Well sweetheart day is over for
another year. All we need to do now
is just sit back and admire the
flowers and nibble the last of the
chocolate — life is good.
The Olympics have required a lot
of attention in the past while as the
top athletes of the world show their
stuff. The poise and grace under
pressure is one of the things I admire
most, besides the obvious physical
training and stamina that each one
there possesses. Well done Team
Canada.
Speaking of poise and grace — why
can't the folks of the media let some
The February meeting of the
Melville Guild was held at the home
of Mary Huether on Tuesday
evening, Feb. 14 with 13 members
and four guests present.
The meeting was opened with the
call to worship, Love, read by Mary
Huether. When I Survey the
Wondrous Cross was sung.
Cathy Cardiff read the scripture,
John 4: 7-21. Eluned McNair led in
prayer and Leona Armstrong read a
story, A Plain Dish of Ice Cream.
Janna Dodds sang a solo, When
Love is Found, accompanied by
Julie Mitchell.
Mary Huether gave the topic, The
Winning Power of Love and Janna
Dodds sang a solo. There's Just
Something About That Name.
Tell Me The Old, Old, Story was
sung and the Mizpah Benediction
was repeated by all.
Mary Huether introduced the
guest speakers Neil and Marie
McGavin, who spoke on their trip to
things go? Wayne Gretzky was the
target of endless questions all last
week as they tried to make a story
even when most of the public could
see it was not to be. Wayne is a fine
example of knowing how and when
to keep his poise and cool while
trying to get the attention back to the
Olympics and hockey. Good job
Wayne.
Philip Graber is coping well with
school and the ever-changing
Alberta weather. Grass fires one day
then 30 below the next — makes the
storms of Huron look good. Uncle
Clif (Hetherington) is keeping him
entertained on the weekends. Oh my,
my.
The radio announcers are earning
their money this past few weeks as
they deal with the cancellations that
a good winter blow can bring. We
seem to be making up for the calm
days of December and early January
with the blows and snow once again.
Oh what the heck — just celebrate
winter.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
Austria, Hungary and the Czech
Republic and showed pictures.
Mrs. Huether thanked the
McGavins and presented them with
a gift.
Cake, ice cream and strawberries
were served.
Leona Armstrong presided over
the business. She welcomed
everyone and thanked the hostess.
Mrs. Armstrong thanked Janna
Dodds for her many years of
dedication to the WMS and Guild
and presented her with a going-away
gift since she is leaving the
community.
The minutes of the January
meeting were read and approved and
Mrs. Armstrong read the treasurer's
report.
The World Day of Prayer was
discussed. Jean Bewley and Leona
Armstrong will take part.
Cathy Cardiff and Eluned McNair
will be in charge of the March
meeting.
A love-1y lunch
Tne Brussels Legion offered a Valentine's lunch on
Tuesday, Feb. 14 to anyone in the community. Those who
made it out, including from left: Isabel Workman, Lyle and
Alice Brothers, enjoyed a home cooked meal and lots of
pink and red decorations to celebrate the special day. (Heather

At the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
Well, a job well done this week,
with the painting of the Brussels
Legion lounge ceiling. Most of the
work was accomplished last Sunday,
but the remaining one-third was
finished on Wednesday with the help
of Sandra Josling, Anne Pelletier,
Lloyd Glanville, Catrina Josling and
Jo-Ann McDonald.
The coming week's objective is to
sand the glossy trim.
There was a good turnout to the
Valentine's luncheon at noon Feb.
14. We were pleased with the
birthday group of ladies who joined
us and sang happy birthday to the
February birthday girls and to
birthday boy Jack Cardiff who also
was in attendance. Close to 20
stayed to play progressive euchre
which started at 1 p.m. with Helen
Dobson and Mabel Willis looking
after the card players.
The Branch held a Smart Serve
course on Wednesday evening with a
dozen comrades in attendance. There
will be another session on March 12.
Interested comrades can contact
Sandra at the Branch or Jo-Ann for
information.
For Thursday night darts, there

high start of 108. Sandra Josling won

finishes were by Gord with a 92 and
Sandra a 76.
The Friday night supper was
cancelled due to road and weather
conditions. This week is turkey
deluxe.
There was a surprise birthday held
Saturday evening for Ross McCall
who celebrated a half century with
family and friends. Music, food and
visiting made for a great evening.
