The Kings' first game was played on Friday at 5:15 p.m. against the tournament host team, Innisfil. Both teams hit the ice eager to play. With just over seven minutes left in the first period, Daniel Dery made a nice pass to Alex Hogan, who was standing in front of Innisfil's goalkeeper and drove the ball into the net. With less than five minutes left in the second period, Innisfil received a two-minute penalty for high- sticking. Blyth got the ball into their net during the power play, but it was considered a no-goal as it went in off Blyth's foot. The team had several more scoring opportunities, but couldn't capitalize. The final score was a 1-0 victory for the Kings. Goalkeeper, Derek Logtenberg played a great game in net to earn this shutout. Hogan was named man of the match. On Saturday at 3 p.m. the Kings played the Windsor Devils, a very strong team. Winger, Michael Hogan shot the ball out of the corner towards centre Brent Drost, who got the ball past the goalie for the Kings to take a 1-0 lead. With just over two minutes left in the first period, there was a lot of traffic in front of the net and Windsor scored to tie. There were five penalties against Blyth in this game, and Blyth managed to keep Windsor from scoring during this 10 minutes worth of powerplay. • Since the game was still tied 1-1 at The Blyth Gamblers Bantam girls broomball team travelled to Lefroy this weekend to compete in the annual Ontario junior broomball championships. Their first game was against the Eastern Storm. The girls got off to a good start showing the Storm that they meant business. Courtney Bos gave her usual solid performance in net keeping the Storm shooters at bay. -Half-way through the second half, Hanna Moore got a pass over to Laura Dykstra who snuck it in by the Storm goalie. The Gamblers held on to their one-goal lead to beat the Storm 1-0. The Gamblers' second game was against the. Eastern Golddiggers, another tough opponent from the Ottawa area. The GambleiS carried on with the same intensity from the first game but goals have never been easy for this team. The Golddiggers got a more momentum and the Rollers fell apart and lost this game by several goals. The Rollers had time for a team breakfast, then they had to play another Central West team, the Seaforth PeeWees. This was a very evenly-matched game. There were scoring opportunities from both teams, but the game remained scoreless. The Rollers had two penalties during the game, but played their positions and didn't allow Seaforth to score. The teams went into overtime. Fans were not disappointed by either team as there was a period and a half of overtime play before Blyth's Laura Souch scored the winning goal. It was an exciting win for the the end of regulation play, it was time for sudden-death overtime. Blyth had some scoring opportunities,-but Windsor managed to flip the ball over Blyth's defence and scored a goal, to win. Winger Jordon Rinn was named man of the match. The final game for Blyth was againgt another Central West team, the Mildmay Jets on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. The Jets came on strong and scored in the beginning of the first period, after the ball went off a Blyth playerwho was trying to clear it. The Kings played a fantastic second period with many scoring opportunities, but the Jets stopped them every time. With less than a minute left in the game, Drost wrapped the ball around the corner of the net and scored for the Kings. The goal was whistled and they went to the centre for a face-off. However, while the play was in the Mildmay end and the goal was scored, Blyth was pulling their goalie. In their eagerness to tie up the game there were too many players on the ice for Blyth, so the other referee over-ruled, the goal was taken away and Blyth received a penalty for too many players on the ice. With a man advantage for Mildmay, Blyth ran out of time to tie the game. It was a heartbreaking loss for Blyth. The man of the match title was given to two players, Tristan Miltenberg and captain Michael Hogan. This tournament wraps up the broomball season for the Kings.
