Toasting the bride and groom at a
wedding can be a difficult thing to
do for a best man. Keeping it simple
and appropriate is essential.
Being asked to be the best man at
a wedding can be a great honour -
initially. However, once the reality
sets in, so, too, may the nervousness.
Those nerves are deeply rooted in
the tradition of the best man toast, a
responsibility many men would
rather not have.
Pressure to write a great toast and
not ruin the couple's big day can be
overwhelming, especially if the
wedding is a lavish one and you're
speaking in front of a large crowd. If
you're struggling over how to write
an entertaining, yet appropriate
wedding toast, here are a few helpful
hints that should make your speech
go a little smoother.
1. Toast preparation should begin a
few days (at least) prior to the
wedding. Before you even begin to
write your toast, think about your
relationship to both the bride and
groom and why they chose you as
the best man.
Along with examining your
relationship to the couple, think back
to how the groom was before he met
the bride or vice versa. If you know
how they met, you might want to
include a reference to that story in
your toast.
Also, think of the most amusing
anecdotes involving the bride and/or
groom.
2. Once you've jotted down a few
notes and thoughts about the bride
