Tents can create a Gatsby air of romance to a wedding and

Outdoor weddings have been get-
ng a lot of attention lately and the
ppeal is understandable. Dancing
nder the moon in your backyard, by
:le beach or at a park is an unforget-
--ible way to celebrate that one spe-
,'Ial day.
As opposed to the kind that
;quires a sleeping bag and bug
• ;pellent, wedding tents can add ele-
. ance and a Gatsby air of romance
I a reception.
Another bonus to hammering in
iese pegs is that the party goes on,
..iin or shine. Tents can keep you
.lebrating despite any objections
..om Mother Nature.
Wendy and Marvin Bachert have
been running their own tent rental
company for almost 11 years and
say they have helped create the
dream wedding for hundreds of cou-
ples.
"I'd say we've done about 15 to 20
weddings a summer," Wendy said.
Tents can be perfect for an inti-
mate feeling and suited for any size
of reception.
Bachert said she has rented tents
for small, intimate receptions as well
as more elaborate celebrations.
"One wedding that we rented a
tent for had a mother and daughter
being married in the same wedding
with two different dead tables," she
said.
Trends she has noticed lately are
beach weddings and weddings held
at a second home such as a cottage.
"There are a lot of people from the
States who own cottages between
Bayfield and Goderich," she said.
Bachert said the largest tent she
rents can fit 400 people. Tents range
in price from $275 - $1,000 and are
available to anyone in Huron and
Perth Counties although they also
rent outside of that area.
"We rented to a friend of ours who
had a beach wedding outside of
Samia," she said.
When looking for a tent their are a
few tips to keep in mind.
For areas that cannot use stakes
such as asphalt, concrete or wooden
decks, freestanding or frame tents
are available. BAchert said one f her
frame tents was used at a beach wed-
ding and was weighed down with
sandbags.
When measuring the area needed
for the tent it is best to add five feet
around (10 feet to the length and the
width) to allow room for staking.
It is recommended that about 10-
12 square feet are left for each guest
at a sit down dinner. Also, you'll
need to factor in more room for any
other items such as a buffet table, a
DJ or a stage.
Comfortable
footwear
an essential
accessory
The right pair of shoes are the
final wedding day accessory. But
uncomfortable shoes can be a pain
for the bride. Break in shoes by
wearing them around the house for
several hours each day leading up to
the wedding. If they're slippery and
you could risk a fall going down the
aisle, try placing adhesive strips on
the soles of the shoes.
