The Optimist Club is looking for ways to improve the Maitland Valley Conservation Park. They have , discussed putting in a new entrance and a railing along the dam and roadside trails with pavement. At the Branch Cadets enjoy evening of sports the same with 101 shot by Norm Dobson and Marlene Little. Zone team mixed darts was played on Saturday with two teams from Brussels taking part. Both placed among the top five with team Eric Ross, Deb Cann, Bob Richardson and Sandra Josling finishing third and team John Harrison, Anita Little, Ron Schmidt and Sara Little placing fifth. They all advance to District competition in April. The success of every organization is its members. There is a very dedicated core group of Comrades who are working very hard and succeeding at heading the Branch FROM BRUSSELS Well that should teach us to heed the weatherperson. They said the snow was coming and it did, in a very impressive way. The depth of the snow was determined by the way the wind blew and we have several very impressive spots at our place, using shape, amount and size of the drifts we have several that are photoworthy. The fellows on the snowplows and blowers were hard at work on Sunday moving the heavy masses which had accumulated. Most of the rest of us took a look of wonder outside and decided to stay put. There's nothing like a good snowsquall to remind you that life is full of choices. As the winter continues, it is sometimes difficult to keep active. There is a group in our village that invite you to get active with them. We have low impact exercises at the By Jo-Ann McDonald The Brussels Cadet Corps met on Tuesday evening, Jan. 31 and participated in a sports evening. They played many indoor games and had a great time learning how to work at team co-operation. Brussels Agri Services held an information meeting on Wednesday evening. The back room has undergone a makeover this past week, thanks to the efforts of Sandra Josling, Jo-Ann McDonald, Catrina Josling, Cecil Moore, Judy Lee and Eric Ross. The walls were all washed and painted a new pale blue and grey. The steel blue trim really sets off the room. The ceiling panels were taken down United Church led by Nelva Scott on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Then on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. you can join the group that takes their walking shoes to the Community Centre. This kind of walking is safe and enjoyable no matter the weather. So take this as your personal invitation to join the get physical gang, you'll enjoy the fun. The lights are on and someone is home at the United Church manse. Sandra Cable our student minister got moved in last week so be sure to introduce yourself as she makes her way about the community. For the United Church folks the and painted as well for a complete makeover. The Branch is hosting two District events soon so it's a good time to freshen up. The Friday night supper of sausage and sauerkraut was enjoyed by a great crowd. This week is salisbury steak. The Thursday night darts had 12 players taking aim at the boards. The first-place team was Sandra Josling and Gord Jacklin. There was a tie for second place between John Harrison and Kaye Smith and Marlene Little and Harry Smith. There were two men who shot 102 — John Stade!mann and Bush Whittard. The high starts were also weather gave us a holiday on Sunday so take this as your reminder that the annual meeting is this Sunday and to bring finger foods for a shared lunch prior to the meeting. Hope to see you there. Mark your calendar now for the World Day of Prayer service. This is a service with a very impressive history. Each year women from a different country prepare the service, this year offered from South Africa, and it is held simultaneously around the world on the first Friday of March. The Youth program has three different facets. The first is the poster, essay and poem competition for Remembrance Day. It begins with the distribution of materials and guidelines to the two area schools in October. The collectino, of the entries, judging of the entnes and the return and presentation of the awards to the students. The second facet is the public speaking event. Again, guidelines are delivered to the school and the Continued on page 6 with washrooms. There would be benches through the park, so people can enjoy the area, stop for picnics and for school outings. The Owen Sound convention is in the summer of 2007.
