Wheeler gets national honour
Blyth arena was host to the final'
regular season game, on Jan. 28 at 2
p.m. when the Blyth PeeWee Rollers
played against Seaforth co-ed
broomball team.
Murray Dale, Blyth's goalkeeper,
played well in net. His many saves
kept the Rollers in the game.
Both teams hit the ice in top form
making some good passes and
working hard• at playing their
positions. Each team took some
shots on the net, but neither team hit
the scoreboard at the end of the first
period.
With 6:52 left in the second period
The Blyth Bantam girls Gamblers
Broomball team played against the
Seaforth/Palmerston team in
Palmerston on Sunday.
The Gamblers were short a few
players and played well with two
lines. With Courtney Bos in net they
kept Seaforth/Palmerston off the
score board for the first half.
The start of the second half saw
Laura Dykstra, Hannah Uyl and
Hannah Moore race down the ice
and Dykstra bounce the ball off the
goalie into the net with an assist by
Moore.
The Gamblers held onto their one
goal lead right up to the last minute.
With the Seaforth/Palmerston goalie
pulled, there was a mad scramble in
Bos's goal crease and they poked one
by her.
This put the game into 10 minutes
there was a lot of traffic in front of
the Blyth net and Seaforth snuck the
ball past Dale. Blyth kept the
pressure on for the rest of the game.
They had several • scoring
opportunities, but Seaforth didn't
allow the R,ollers to tie up the game.
The final score was a close on
with a 1-0 win for Seaforth.
Coaches say, the Rollers have
worked hard as a team and have
improved steadily over the season.
