The Citizen, 2003-12-24, Page 39PAGE B10. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2003. Teacher’s collection grows By Bonnie Gropp i itizen editor As a teacher. Barb Bosman has been the recipient of many special Christmas gifts over the years. “I suddenly realized that I had a whole pile of snowmen, then angels.” Bosman put her collections to good use displaying them around the home for the season. Add to this the fact that she is a “light freak" and her home has become a warm, festive tribute to the holidays. With angels taking centre stage. Bosman also has a unique nativity collection, in addition to snowmen and teddy bears. Bosman said she has also gained inspiration from home tours. "Oh. my, the ideas you get.” she said adding that the challenge is to come home and try to copy those ideas, inexpensively. She and her husband Allan have also combined their treatise talents lor several inspired items such as a pair of snowmen from hydro poles. Now retired. Barb's love lor decorating during the holidays extends as well to herself. "As a teacher you dress to please the kids, so I have a real Christmas wardrobe. Since retiring though. I have cut back a bit. I realized that most other people don’t deck out like Christmas trees.” With a little ingenuity The home of Barb and Allan Bosman is decorated each year with a mix of Barb’s treasured collections, a little professional help and their own ingenuity. Clockwise, from left: the fresh floral centrepiece is an annual tradition; Barb relaxes on the sofa wearing one of her many Christmas sweaters, a holdover from her days as a teacher when she “dressed for the children”; two charming snowmen created from old hydro poles are a colourful hearth display by the recreation room fireplace.
