The lucky winners received a plump and juicy turkey to enjoy over the holidays. (Elyse De Bruyn photo) 80 attend Over 80 members and friends ol the Belgrave Community Seniors Club gathered at the Belgrave Community Centre on Friday, Dec. 5 for their annual Christmas party and turkey dinner. Items of food to be donated to the Food Bank in Wingham were collected. President Muriel Coultes welcomed everyone and grace was sung. After a delicious dinner, Muriel thanked Fred and Deb Hakkers of Blyth and their staff. Barbara Anderson’s program committee was in charge of the entertainment, and she called on Arnold Bruce on the violin, and Alf Nichol al the piano for some musical numbers. Alice Nicholson gave two very humorous readings, which were dinner followed by solos h\ John Roberts accompanied by Kay Roberts. Ross Anderson and Lome Campbell entertained with Ross playing mouth organ and Lome as pianist. Donna Shaw led in some favourite carols with Freda Johnston al the piano. During the entertainment, draws were made for the table centrepieces and al the end of the program several more draws were made for other items.. Everyone was informed ol a proposed seniors bus trip being planned for March 17 to a St. Patrick’s dinner theatre in Hamilton. Members were urged to contact Donna Shaw. Mrs. Anderson then thanked everyone for taking part and wished everyone a very Merry Christmas. FROM BELGRAVE John Anderson recently returned home from Wingham and District Hospital after being a patient there for two weeks. Friends and neighbours wish John a speedy recovery. Bruce Elliott Scott, formerly of the Sixth Line of East Wawanosh passed away at the Rockcliffe Nursing Home in Scarborough on Thursday, Dec. 4, aged 86. He was predeceased by his wife, Janet (Hall), parents, Cyrus and Lizzie (Cunningham) Scott and his foster sister. May (Frisby) Rinn. A memorial service was held at the Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, Toronto. Tuesday, Dec. 16. Bruce had resided in Toronto since 1954. He was an accountant. Congratulations from the community to Nancy Michie, clerk treasurer of the Twp. of Morris and the Municipality of Morris- Turnberry for 25 years . Forty-six Edgar relatives held their Christmas at the Women’s Institute Hall. Belgrave on Saturday, Dec. 13. Those present came from Petrolia, Tavistock, Wingham, London, Goderich, Blyth, Atwood. Aylmer, Brigden. Lucknow and Belgrave. After the dinner Christmas carols were sung with Mary Thompson at the piano. Santa arrived at 8 p.m. to hand out the Christmas gifts. After Santa left bingo was played. The Clinton Wheel ‘n Dealers enjoyed a potluck dinner for their Christmas dance. Dec. 10. Fellow dancers Fred and Deb Hakkers prepared the turkey, dressing and gravy. President Allan and Cecilia Fulker and committee are planning the 40th anniversary for June 9. An introduction to modern square dancing will start the new year. The members welcome new and former dancers. Les and Shirley Greenwood, Parkhill do the music and teach the calls. They will meet at the Clinton Public School at 8 p.m. Jan. 14 and 21. M, Coultes hosts UCW The December meeting of the Evening Unit of the Belgrave United Church Women was held at the home of Muriel Coultes on Tuesday, Dec. 2 with 26 members and guests present. The roll call was answered by bringing a gift for the Christmas Bureau. President Lorna Cook welcomed everyone and read a poem Hearts will Quicken, then introductions were made. Lillian Campbell opened the worship which featured the stories of how two Christmas carols, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, and O Little Town of Bethlehem, were written. Alice Stortegoom led in prayer and also read a meditation. Verses of each of the hymns were sung. Alice closed with prayer. Barbara Anderson welcomed and introduced Jayne Vincent, one of Belgrave’s own young people, who has spent time in Korea teaching English as a second language. She talked of the work she did at the school, friends she had met and travelled with and shared personal experiences of her time there. She showed numerous pictures of her travels as well as gifts she had received, and souvenirs she had collected. Laura Johnston thanked her for speaking and wished her well as she continues her studies in Lethbridge. The business was conducted, after which the benediction was given and a social time followed with Jane Grasby, Mabel Wheeler and Irene Lamont serving lunch. 6 tables of euchre in play There were six tables of euchre in play on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Women’s Institute Hall. Winners were: high lady, Lois Chamney; second high lady, Ada Taylor; lone hands, Mary McIntosh; high man, Gordon Bosman; second high man. Walter Elliott; lone hands. Allan Edgar. There is euchre again on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. There were seven tables of shoot in play on Friday, Dec 12 at the Community Centre. Winners were: high lady, Helen Stonehouse; second high lady, Laura Johnston; most shoots, Jane Grasby; low lady, Bev Hayden; high man, Joanne MacDonald; second high man, Jim Coultes; most shoots, lrlma Edgar; low man, Lloyd Appleby.
