FROM ETHEL
Saturday was a fine day for rink
building in Ethel. Thanks to Andrew
Versteeg. Ben Terpstra and Mark
Westra for leading the construction.
Apparently the group will wait out
this warmer weather we are to expect
this week before asking the
firefighters to fill up the plastic with
water.
Grey firefighters had a lively and
entertaining Christmas celebration
together on Saturday night. Dinner
was served at Brubacher's
community, so don’t be alarmed il
the firetruck pulls into the drivewax
on Thursday night - unless, ol
course, (he lights are Hashing, (he
sirens blaring and there arc'
inexplicable Hames somewhere!
We are doing all that we can to let
all members of the community know
they are thought of throughout the
year. Hope to see you there.
This Wednesday, Grey Central will
host its Christmas pageant. This is
the night the Grade 8s will unveil and
sell their “logheads”, the creative
festive critters being sold to raise
money tor a good cause' chosen by
the class. Remember, a buyer can go
higher than $5 should they please!
Finally. I would like to mention
that OPP Const. Maclsaac came to
our door this morning explaining that
a snowplow driver had called the
police expressing concern for the
safety of some children toboganning
in town before the buses came. He
asked if we could get the word out
that children need to be careful when
tobogganing particularly near roads
and rivers.
in Ethel, near the bridge is one of
the “sledding hot spots” but it is very
near to the road. Also as snow
accumulates at the intersection, a
large hill develops on the Lindsay
property. This big hill is enticing to
children but they should be
discouraged from climbing on it as
there is a strong possibility of them
slipping onto the road and into traffic.
(And having a problematic
intersection doesn't keep them any
safer.)
Children are our resource, we need
to protect them. See you Thursday at
the celebration. Have a great week!

back to deputy-chief Dave Diehl’s
home for festivities.

There were numerous winners of
the lucky tally.
The next euchre will be held on

Christmas euchre.
This Thursday night is the second
annual Ethel Community Christmas,
starting at 7 p.m. at the Ethel Hall
Parents are encouraged to accompany
their children. There will be carolling
by horse-drawn hay wagons at 7 p.m.
At the hall. Mr. Alf Sutton will
provide the musical entertainment
and refreshments will be served.
Everyone is invited to attend this
free community event and donations
(non-perishable food) will be
accepted at the hall for the Salvation
Army. Captain Neil of the Salvation
Army will arrive around 8:30 p.m. to
pick up the donations.
Last year the hall held such a
wonderful sound of neighbours
chatting and children playing, along
with Mr. Sutton playing the piano! I
do hope that if you are planning to
attend, if even for only a brief visit,
you might offer to bring along
someone who doesn’t drive or who
might be alone. Sometimes offering
makes the difference.
Also, Grey firefighters will be out
visiting some special members of the
