Christmas caroling
Sounds of laughter and singing filled the halls of Walton
Little School on Dec. 9 as students sang Christmas songs
including Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to
Town and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with their
teachers. Naomi Pelss, teacher, and Alyshia Williamson

The ladies of Duff’s United
Church Women served the funeral
luncheon for Doug Fraser on
Saturday. Many friends and family
gathered at the church for the 1 p.m.
service and for the luncheon
following.
Sadness has touched the lives of
many Walton residents with the
news of the passing of Doug. A
community and church-oriented
man, he will be missed by all. He
spent many years contributing his
time to various organizations and
spent 14 years representing the
residents of Morris Twp. as
councillor then Reeve.
He was a quiet man who helped
others without a lot of fanfare or
recognition. He loved talking to
people, meeting new friends,
travelling, having friends and
neighbours over to play pool,
dancing and telling jokes.
Our condolences are extended to
Marjory and family Carolyn,
Dianne, Clayton and Cheryl and
their families.
Our wishes for a speedy recovery
go to Marianna Ryan who has had
hip surgery.
Returning from a trip to Nicaragua
are Keith and Janet Bachert. They
were joined by daughter Shelley and
husband Mike from Cumberland,
Maryland and were in Nicaragua to
visit Keith and Janet’s son Mark. He
is doing missionary work and is
really enjoying it and people.
They flew into Managua, the
capital and found a country in
turmoil. Policemen, nurses and other
essential people are the poorest paid
in the country, so bribery can get you
anything. It is a country of contrasts.
The majority of people are very
poor. All homes have bars and gates
with padlocks used even when in the
home. Shacks and shanties are
everywhere.
The weather was very pleasant
hovering around the 80° mark and
they enjoyed seeing the area.
The Bacherts took baby layettes,
prepared by the ladies of the Clinton
Gospel Hall. The layettes were much
appreciated by the hospital there.
They were away eight days are are
glad to be home. They look forward
to having Mark home for a short visit
at Christmas.
Visiting at the home of Kathleen
Williamson for the past week is
Grace Pethick who is recovering
from surgery with Kathleen’s tender
loving care.
The Walton Inn was the site for the
Majestic Women’s Institute’s
December meeting. There were 17

Early Years
The Walton Early Years, held
Wednesday mornings at Duff’s
Church, had six children and
caregivers enjoy activities about
sharing and caring. There were very
active playtime and discussions
about sharing.
The children enjoyed making
cookies and had the opportunity to
“taste and share”. Some people
even tried to put their first initial on
their cookies.
An active circle of jingle bells
included an obstacle course as they
used rhyming words with the poem
This Old Man.
Caring cards were decorated with
names of people the children care
about. Many lacing, stacking and
puzzle activities were enjoyed by
all.
