Sports Atom Dogs in Silver Stick Blyth Atom Rep Bulldogs competed in the Wingham Regional Atom Silver Stick this past week. In the first game Blyth took on Teeswater. After a slow start, and two Teeswater goals, Blyth started a comeback. Adam Cronin scored from Cody Richmond to cut the lead to 2-1. Tyler Black scored a coast- to-coast goal to tie the score. Blyth took the lead for good as Aaron Popp scored the third goal. The Dogs held on for a 3-2 victory. Game two was Saturday morning against Chesley. After another slow start, Blyth found themselves down 2-0 with 33 seconds left in the second period. John Lecomte scored to cut the lead to 2-1. Richmond drew the assist. Blyth worked hard in the third, and with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker. Lecomte found the twine again from Black. The game would end in a 2-2 tie. After two games the Bulldogs were in second place of the E group, and needed a win to advance. They would have to beat a strong Milverton team which had beaten Blyth twice before, 9-0 and 7-0. The Dogs weren’t about to roll over and play dead, however and came out hard. Although badly outshot, Blyth had chances, but couldn’t find the back of the net. (Elyse DeBruyn photo) Brussels Midgets trounce Listowel The Blyth PeeWee Local League won the B Consolation title in a tournament at the Normanby Arena in Ayton on Saturday, Dec. 13. The squad lost their first game against Listowel 5-2. Lucas Cook eand Martin Ellis, assisted by Shawna Popp scored for Blyth. The team had better luck when they faced Minto for game two. Scoring in this 4-3 victory were Their biggest win came in game three as they shut out the host team by a score of 8-0. Goalie Andrew Bailey earned the shutout. Scoring were Richmond, Pennington with a hattrick, Bokhout with two. Popp and Daniel Elliott. Assists went to McDowell, Popp, Bokhout with two, Danielle Bean, Jordon Smith, Cooke and Bakelaar. Brussels Midget boys celebrated their victory after winning 6 - 1 against Listowel on Dec. 8. Nick Campbell scored the first two goals, assisted by Darcey Cook and Matt McCIinchey. Cook scored the next one assisted by Tate Stephenson while Brent Wheeler scored unassisted shortly after. Andrew McDonald assisted on Campbell’s th'rd goal in the second period while Mitch Blake earned the assist on McClinchey’s goal. On Dec. 14, the boys lost 4 - 3 against Zurich. Brandon Blake scored an unassisted goal in the first period. Steven Ropp scored the next goal assisted by Stephenson and Campbell while Greg Bowers scored the last goal, assisted by Cory Chapman. Colin Bokhout, Mike McDowell, Dallas Pennington and Ellis. Assists went to Colton Kerr, Ellis, Jordan Bakelaar, Bokhout, Kaytee Richmond and Popp. Brussels Crusaders shutout by Tavistock squad The Brussels Crusaders were shut out 4-0 by the Tavistock Royals on Friday night. The team travels to Goderich Friday night with the next home game being Tuesday, Dec. 23 against the Wingham Spitfires in Brussels. Game time is 8 p.m. That contest will feature minor hockey night with all minor hockey children from Blyth and Brussels being admitted free with a parent. Each child will receive a free hot dog and a pop courtesy of the Crusaders. Also that night the Brussels Novices and the Wingham Novices will face off in between periods for a hockey game. ties BCH After both teams played a great game of hockey, Brussels Tykes and BCH (Bayfield, Clinton and Hensall) ended their game in a 6 - 6 tie. Brody Ten Pas played hard, scoring four goals, two of them unassisted. Wyatt Ducharme and Anthony Vader assisted Ten Pas’s second goal, while Brock McLean scored two goals in the second period. The first was assisted by Mitchell Kellington and the second was assisted by Ducharme and Matt McNichol. Ten Pas scored again in the third period assisted by McLean. BUY? SELL? The Atom coaches felt the Milverton game was Blyth’s best effort of the season. Kayla Black was the difference, keeping the team in every game. The game against Milverton was the best of the season for the netminder, who stopped all but one of 29 shots. Her goals against average for the tournament was 1.66 The Atom coaches congratulate the team on a great tournament and their hard work in each game. The next Atom Rep home game is Saturday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. against Wallace.
