At the Branch
Legion mourns Comrade
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It is with great sadness that the
news of the passing of Comrade
Anne Exel was heard in the
community and at the Brussels
Legion Branch.
Anne was a wonderful, creative,
musical, talented and caring
individual. She contributed her time
and cooking talents many times. An
active member of Branch 218 she
held the positions of secretary and
membership chairman, as well as a
part-time bartender throughout the
pas t years
There were 26 Comrades gathered
on Thursday evening for the service
of remembrance for Comrade Anne
ai Schimanskis led by Padre Joan
Golder,. Our condolences and
deepest sympathy goes to close
friend Lisa Glanville and children
Mike and Michelle and their
families.
The dar league had 10 players
take aim at the boards. Finishing in
first place were the trio of Lynda
Shaw, Bill Kamerman, and John
Harrison. The second-place trio was
Harry Smith, Sharon Glanville and
Julie Harrison an amazing finish
seeing in game one they were
skunked. The high shot of the night
was 133 by John Harrison.
Friday night’s supper of sweet and
sour meatballs was enjoyed by a
good crowd. This week is turkey.
On Dec. 19 it will be potluck and
a Christmas mystery gift exchange,
open to anyone. Gifts are to be no
more than a $10 value.
On Friday evening, the Brussels
PeeWee team dropped into the
Branch tor a social time after the
game with their families. They
enjoyed pizza and an array of snacks
provided by the parents. The
children played pool and darts and
were able to watch a replay of their
game (which they won 7-3 1
believe).
On Saturday, the Branch hosted
the Zone Team Darts. President Rick
McDonald welcomed the over 60
darters to the Branch and wished
them all good luck. There were five
Brussels teams participating with
two teams finishing in the top eight
to advance to District play in
Hanover. Finishing second were
Bob and Margo Richardson, Wade
Henderson and Andy Adams. Also
advancing was the team of Eric
Ross, Anita Little, Lawrence
Machan and Ken Bird.
Congrats to all of them.
Saturday afternoon euchre had 13
tables at play. The first-place team
was Rita Flynn and Verna Gibbings
with 82 points. Coming in second
were Marg Carter and Lorna Ellis
with 77 points and right behind for
third were Tom and Eileen Sloan
with 76 points. The lucky lone hand
winners of free passes for another
euchre were Vera Ahrens and John
Subject. Wishing for better cards
were Olive Little and Betty Hulley
with the low score of 47 points. The ’
next euchre is Dec. 20.
The Sunday night singles dance
had over 100 enjoy the music of the
Ken Scott Orchestra. The next dance
is Dec. 21.
