Locals do well at this year’s Royal
The anticipation for the Royal
Agricultural Winter Fair has come to
an end for another year. Many local
residents have brought home top
honours.
The market lamb category had
several perpetual winners making
the list again.
Hugh and JoAnn Todd of
Lucknow, placed fourth in the
wether or ewe lamb, 51 -74 lbs., 15th
in wether or ewe lambs 75-90 lbs.,
and second in pen of three iambs,
ewes and/or wether, averaging 51-74
lbs.
Lee and Lila Rintoul of Lucknow
captured fifth and ninth in wether or
ewe lamb, 75-90 lbs., first in wether
or ewe lamb, 90-105 lbs., and first in
pen of three, ewes and/or wethers,
averaging 91-105 lbs.
Bruce and Kim Higgins of
Brussels placed 10th in the wether or
ewe lamb, 75-90 lbs., and in the
wether or ewe lamb, 90-105 lbs., and
second in pen of three, ewes and/or
wether, averaging 75-90 lbs.
Keith Todd, also of Lucknow,
placed seventh in wether or ewe
lamb, 9-105 lbs., and third in pen of
three lambs, ewes and/or avg. 75-90
- maine anjou, yearlings.
Blake Alton of Lucknow placed
ninth in the top meadows junior
lbs.

Royal winners
The Todd family of the Lucknow area had the Champion
Southdown flock at this year’s Royal Winter Fair. From left:

the Champion Southdown ewe, ram and first get of sire.
Hugh was the recipient of the Peter Levine Achievement
Award. This goes to the person who exemplifies the all-
around ability, sportsmanship and dedication necessary to
be respected by his or her fellow exhibitors and breeders.

For the Southdown sheep, they
captured first and third in ewe,
yearling third pair temporary
incisors. For ewe first pair
temporary incisors they placed first
and second, they won champion ewe
and reserve, placed first and sixth in
ram first pair temporary incisors.
They won champion ram and
reserve, first in get of sire - owned
by exhibitor, first in breeders flock
bred and owned by exhibitor, the
C.J. Brodie trophy and finally the
Levine Achievement award.
Dan Shapton placed third and
Corey Rintoul placed fourth in the
Syngenta Queen’s Gunieas group
six. while Lana Shapton placed
second in group seven.
In the junior beef heifer show, for
top meadows junior beef - limousin
calves competition, Kristina
Drennan of Auburn placed first in
the loyal line and second in
champion limousin.
Kathryn Alton of Lucknow placed
third in the top meadow's junior beef
beef, simmental, yearlings.
In the Go for the Gold, class one,
Brad Kroes, Allan Storey. Dann
Eedy and Jenn Lotenberg all placed
sixth.
The jersey competition winner for
the female, junior calf, born on or
after March 1,2003 went to Paul and
Lorraine Franken and Mike Seegers
of Clinton.
The Frankens also placed sixth in
the female, intermediate calf from
Dec. 1, 2002 to Feb. 28. 2003,
seventh in the female, summer
yearling. June 1. 2002 to Aug. 31,
2002.
The Franken’s along with Seegers,
placed second in female,
intermediate calf from Dec. 1, 2002
to Feb. 28, 2003, IOth in the female
intermediate yearling, Dec. 1. 2001
to Feb. 28, 2002 and second for
junior herd. They won first place in
the jersey futurity three year old
females.
Franken placed seventh in female,
milking yearling, Sept. 1, 2001 or
after, 10th in female, junior two-
year-old. March 1. 2001 to Aug. 31.
2001 and seventh for female senior
two-year-old born Sept. 1. 2000 to
Feb. 28. 2001. He also came in third
for female mature cow born prior to
Aug. 31. 1997 and third in jersey
futurity three-year-old females. He
also placed eighth in female junior
three-years-old.
Fred and Ruth Armstrong of
Auburn placed fifth in the female
milking yearling born Sept. 1, 2001
or after, in the female junior three
year old born March 1. 2000 to Aug.
31. 2000. they placed seventh and
ninth. They won second and fourth
in jersey futurity three year old
females compeititon.
Ernst and Stefan Gubelmann of
Walton did well in the Brown Swiss
competition bringing home premier
breeder and premier exhibitor. They
also placed third in the female
junior calf born March 1, 2003 to
May 31, 2003 and fourth and fifth in
the female intermediate calf born
Dec. 1, 2002 to Feb. 28, 2003. For
the female senior calf born Sept. I,
2002 to Nov. 30. 2002, they won
sixth and seventh, they came in
second for female summer yearlin
gborn June 1, 2002 to Aug. 31,2002.
Nadine Ringgenberg of Walton
placed eighth in the female junior
calf born between March 1. 2003
and May 31, 2003.
In female intermediate yearling
born Dec. 1, 2001 to Feb. 28. 2002
competition they placed fourth and
seventh, third in the junior herd,
second in female senior two-year-
old born Sept. 1. 2000 to Feb. 28.
2001, seventh in the female three-
year-old bom between Sept. 1, 1999
to Aug. 31, 2000. Placing second in
female four-year-old born between
Sept. 1, 1999 to Aug. 31, 2000, in
female mature cow, born prior to
Sept. 1, 1997, they came in fourth
and finally placing second in
Progeny of Dam.
Suncrest Farms Listowel not only
won first in two bulls, bred and
owned by exhibitor, but they came in
second and third in the bull calf born
in 2003 minimum three months of
age competiton and second in bull
born in 2001. In female calf born in
2003, minimum three months they
placed second and seventh. They
captured a first and a second in
female heifer born Jan. 1, 2002 to
March 31. 2002. They also placed
first for female born before Jan. 1,
2001 with calf at foot and they
received second place for best pair
of females.
Other honours Suncrest Farms
Listowel won were first in breeder’s
herd, get of sire and progeny of dam.
They also won the premier exhibitor
award and premier breeder award.
Aside from earning the
Glentiddich Galloway trophy, the
Cedarmill Farm Banner, the
Georgedawn Farms Banner and
Cranberry Hill Galloways, Clayton
Salter also won the Suncrest Farms
trophy (perpetual.)
Other honours he received were
second in bull calf champion and
reserve, second in senior champion
bull and reserve, second in grand
champion bull and reserve, second
in calf champion and reserve and
first in champion female and
reserve. He won first for senior
champion female and reserve and
grand champion female and reserve,
supreme champion galloway.
