UCW
holds
potluck
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, 45 women
met at the Brussels United Church
for the annual Christmas potluck
supper of the UCW. A variety of
food was made and enjoyed by those
attending.
Nelva Scott welcomed everyone
and led in grace.
After supper Bette Campbell
played a number of Christmas
carols. Cindy Kikkert’s children
favoured the group with the
following selections on the piano:
Aryn, Ding Dong Merrily on High',
Jillian, We Wish You A Merry
Christmas and Averly, It Came
Upon a Midnight Clear and Angels
We Have Heard On High. The
children were thanked and given a
gift.
Ken and Laura Scott gave a
pictorial description of their trip to
Thailand as well as displayed
articles they collected. Isabelle
Wheeler thanked the Scotts for
sharing their knowledge of Thailand
and the people and customs with us.
Joan Golden led in prayer and the
meeting closed with the singing of
We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
The next meeting will be
Wednesday, Jan. 7 at the home of
Laura Barbour. Sarah Stephenson
and Mrs. Barbour will be in charge
of the meeting and lunch.

The waiting continues. Started in a
Christian context, the season of
Advent is one of waiting. We’re
waiting for the birth of the baby
Jesus and just like we celebrate
birthdays year after year on a certain
date we use Advent to help us get
ready for this one very important
birthday party. The days of
preparation are very exciting as we
think of the ones we love and how
our actions will make their
Christmas time happy.
By the Advent calendar this is the
week for peace. Time for us to think
about the role we play in the hurts of
our world. As a start we could go
back to basics - say only nice things;
don’t argue and fight and don’t
gossip - just three little things but
Wingham youth
dies in car crash
Huron OPP are investigating a
single vehicle crash that occurred
on Dec. 6 shortly after 1 a.m.
Officers attended the scene of the
crash that occurred at the
intersection of Courthouse Square
and West Street in the Town of
Goderich.
A red 1987 Audi ACG was
travelling around Courthouse
Square at a high rate of speed,
police said. The driver had entered
the intersection to West Street, then
lost control, left the roadway and
struck the Bank of Nova Scotia
located at the southwest corner of
West Street.
Shawn Willson, a 17-year-old
from Wingham was the only person
in the vehicle. He was killed on

more peaceful. Try it this week of
peace and maybe the habit will stick.
Several good reports were heard
about the lunch and craft sale at
Huronlea on Saturday - good
friends, good food and good things
to see and buy.
The Christmas parties are in full
swing and it’s good to hear of the
variety of ways people enjoy this
social time together. Businesses say
thanks to their employees for
another good year in many ways -
dinners, dances, parties and games,
visits to restaurants and hotels,
bowling, mystery dinners or theatre
visits to name a few popular ones.
Hope you enjoyed yours.
The students at the public school
are presenting their Christmas
program on Dec. 10. (That’s tonight;
it's Wednesday). So check for the
time with your favourite pupil there
and enjoy their efforts. Concerts are
just one of the many traditions that
tell us Christmas is coming.
For many years, another Brussels
tradition is the singing of carols
together in community. So save Dec.
