Wagon ride
No one could complain of nothing to do last Saturday
because Memorial Hall in Blyth was busy with many events
planned throughout the day. First a movie was shown, then
Santa came for a visit, a chili cookoff, tree lighting and of
course wagon rides. People were driven »around Blyth
sitting on hay, waving and wishing anyone and everyone a
very Merry Christmas. (Elyse DeBruyn photo)

Christmas Dinner
Legion sponsors PeeWee team
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The general meeting of the
Brussels Legion Branch 218 was held
Tuesday evening with 12 Comrades
present as well as two Ladies
Auxiliary comrades and the Zone
Commander of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Jan Stilling in attendance.
The meeting was opened in the
usual manner and the introduction of
the Zone Commander was made.
The first order of business was a
matter concerning the Ladies
Auxiliary of the Branch. Zone
Commander Stilling informed the
comrades present that at the Ladies
Auxiliary meeting on Nov. 3 a notice
of motion was passed by the
members of the auxiliary. She now
had the unpleasant task of informing
the branch of their motion of intent
that they would be giving up their
charter as the Ladies Auxiliary of
Branch 218 effective early in 2004.
She informed the comrades present of
the procedures that have, will and
need to be taken by both the
executives of the Auxiliary and
Branch.
Comrade Mabel Willis expressed
her sadness in having to give up the
charter for botn her and President
Helen Dobson.
Branch President Rick McDonald
also expressed his disappointment in
accepting the ladies’ decision but
understood their reasons for not being
able to carry on.
He extended an invitation to all the
Auxiliary’members to join the Branch
and that they would all be welcome.
The rest of the meeting dealt with
the usual business of running the
Branch. There were three
applications for membership
accepted.
There are zone team darts at the
Branch in December and the other
sports sign-up sheets are now posted
on the bulletin board.
The Thursday night darts had 13
players on hand. The winners for the
night were John and Julie Harrison in
first. Cassie Bootzin and Gary
Dauphin in second and Norm Dobson
and Bruce Clark in third. The high
shot of the night was by Lawrence
Machan with 174. The most amazing
shot of the night was by John
Harrison who hit the bull's eye to
finish a game.
The Friday night supper of sweet
and sour chicken pasta was enjoyed
by a good crowd. This week is sweet
and sour meatballs and rice.
It was a great Santa Claus parade
on Saturday and many dropped in to
warm up at the Branch and enjoy the
Branch activities. The last-minute
members dropped in to pay their dues
at the early bird rate and the winner
for the month of November was
Frank Stretton.
The Brussels PeeWee hockey team
participated in the Royal Canadian
Legion tournament held in Lucknow'
on the weekend. They lost to Mitchell
7-1 in their First game and lost to
Seaforth 8-2 in the second game.
The Mitchell team went on to be
the A winners and Exeter to the B
winners.
Congrats to the PeeWee team. The
Brussels Branch 218 sponsored the
$250 entry fee for the team.
