Family places flowers in memory of loved ones Flowers were placed at the front of Melville Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning in memory of Bill, Joanne. Chris and Lloy Anne King by Karla and Daryl Button, Tammy and Bill King and their families, and Shelley, Garry and Laura Payne. Greeting at the door were Tammy King with Justine and Kassandra. As it was the first Sunday of Advent, Kevin and Rose Kellington with children Logan, Mitchell and Victoria led the congregation in the liturgy and lit the Advent candle. Following this. Janna Dodds and Jacqueline Gowdy sang a special anthem, Star of the East, Obituaries DORIS JEAN LEAR Doris Jean Lear passed away in Burlington on Friday, Nov. 28. 2003. She was in her 80th year. Miss Lear was survived by sisters Helen (George) Underwood of Wingham, and June (Stan) Crawford of Burlington, and brother Harry (Gail) Lear of Londesborough, 10 nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by parents Nelson and Olive Lear. Doris was employed by Western Life Assurance Co., McGregor Clinic. Edmondson’s Insurance Agency. CUNA Mutual Insurance Society and CUNA of Ontario Credit Union in Burlington, before retiring in 1988. Doris served as president of accompanied by Karen Cardiff. Just as the shepherds and the kings of the Magi used the stars to find Jesus, today sailors can travel using the North Star. “Stars are symbols of hope in decorating for Christmas,” Rev. Following the service, all met for a beef stew lunch in the church parlour, with donations going to Presbyterian Sharing to support H1V/AIDS missions in Kenya. For the upcoming week, the junior choir met for practice on Tuesday night. Bible study will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Helen Elliott’s home. The Evening Video Study Program will recommence in January. The sacrament of baptism will be held next Sunday and the mitten tree will be at the front of the church ready to be filled with knitting donations for those less fortu­ nate. Donuts galore It was pick-up day at St. John’s Anglican Church in Brussels when the orders for the Krispy Kreme donuts fundraiser came in. There were 170 boxes ordered by local residents and a few extra were ordered so church members could set up a table at the Brussels Santa Claus parade on Nov. 29.
