Blyth United Church Sunday school White Gift service is Sunday, Dec. 7. The gifts for the children go to the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Greeting at Blyth United Church on Nov. 30 were Doug Howson and Fred Hakkers. Guest musician was Margaret Kai. The first carol Come Thou Long Expected Jesus was sung, followed by the Lighting of the Advent Candle. The Hakkers family, Fred, Deb. Jonathon and Quinton lit the first candle of Hope or the Mary candle. The second carol was A Candle is Burning. The choir sang the anthem Go Out in Joy. Another carol. Oh, How Joyfully was sung as the children gathered at the front of the church. For the children’s story. Rev. Eugen Bannerman told them the story of Superman, Christopher Reed, how he had fallen off his horse and severed his spinal cord, and how Reed had faith that with God’s help all things are possible. He told them that just lately a miracle had happened, that Christopher Reed was breathing on his own without the help of the machine and that Reed believes that he will some day walk again. The dramatized lectionary reading was from Luke I: 26-38. Those taking part were Brandilynn and Wyatt Bearss. Amelia Carter-Brown and Jessica Sparling. Residents brought in chili created from their own secret recipe for others to try.
