Twp. gets tips
on Blyth signs
North Huron clerk-administrator
John Stewart told council at the Nov.
3 meeting that several tips had been
received regarding the damage to the
Blyth signs. The information has
been passed on to the OPP.
Stewart also said he had contacted
Cox Signs regarding repairs and was
told the signs could be fixed. There
is no estimate as yet, but indications
have been that the work will be done
this fall.***
Council authorized the use of
$18,000 budgeted for capital work at
the town hall for the installation of
baffling at the aquatic centre. Also
the project is to be re-assessed before
any additional funds are allocated
toward the project and the funds
originally identified for capital work
at the hall be included in the 2004
budget.
Don’t download roads, county told

Huron County’s roads department
shouldn’t cut costs by downloading
roads to local municipalities, county
council was warned at the Nov. 6
meeting of council.
“Downloading to local
municipalities is not an appropriate
way to balance the books,” said
Bernie MacLellan reacting to a
comment from Don Pletch, county
engineer. The county didn’t like
having highways downloaded on
them by the province and shouldn’t
look to dump roads back on lower-
tier municipalities, he said.

Shewfelt wondered why some roads
were county roads when they didn't
seem to have a lot of traffic. “We in

capital budget for roof repairs and
another $5,000 for windows.

used for the roof and that the money
to repair the windows be put into the
2004 budget.

program the county could go

are used by people going to work in
urban areas and to transport goods to
and from factories in urban areas.
Meanwhile the county has
received a bridge and culvert study
from R. J. Burnside which
recommends structural and safety-
related improvements costs between
$3.7 and $5.4 million over the next
five years.
