Cathy Lavis scored first for the hosts, on a powerplay paving the way for the next three goals. Assist went to Pat Newson. The second goal was scored by Lila Procter, assisted by Karen Youngblut, while Joan Bridge with help from Newson and Karen Pennington skated in for Blyth’s number three goal. Rookie Summer Papple scored Blyth’s final goal with an assist from Lavis and Anne Elliott. Great defense came from Newson, Michele McNichol and Youngblut while Nikki Snell was strong between the pipes. The visiting goalie was Jane Badham. Coaches ‘Fran and Pam’ give their team “a thumbs-up.” Tykes lose despite good play CJM/G NICHOLSON Great Gifts for snowmobilers By Craig Nicholson (©2003 by Craig Nicholson. All Each winter, I test many products and report my findings to help make your riding safer and more enjoyable. These products have proven themselves to me over 10,000 km of riding in a large variety of conditions and I think they’ll work for you too. PackMate Travel Bags: Saving space is important for riders on a saddle bag tour. So is keeping your clothes dry and free from the stink of exhaust fumes. PackMate is the name for reusable plastic travel bags that are air and watertight and come in a variety of sizes. Place your clothes inside and seal the two way zipper. Then, a one-way valve at the bottom allows you to roll the trapped air out and shrink the package by up to 75 per cent of its air-filled size. Now you can cram a whole lot more into those saddle bags. Much better than old grocery bags and transparent too, so you can see what’s inside without opening. Try Walmart or click on www.packmate.com Universal Tow Mirrors: The law in many jurisdictions requires mirror extensions while towing a trailer. The problem is that, until now, most extensions were only made to fit the most common American vehicles, so finding mirrors for any other kind was a long shot. The Universal Tow Mirror solves this problem. It has multiple adjustments, installs easily without tools, and stays put all winter, making towing safer and eliminating fines for obstructed rear sight lines. It has a streamlined, aero dynamic look and the mirror face itself is also adjustable. Primarily targeted to the automotive cleaning industry, the super soft, micro-fiber MagnaShine is perfect for cleaning face visors, goggles and eye glasses without scraping or scratching. Same goes for buffing that precious sled hood and windscreen. I traveled last winter with a MagnaShine cloth in my pocket and now wouldn’t ride without one. Safe for plastic and treated lenses, Fog Off lives up to its name by ensuring clear vision, even at very cold temperatures. Call E-Z TRAXX at 1-800-665-2033 orclick on www.eztraxx.com Wigwam Ingenious® Socks: The key to warm feet is moving perspiration away from the skin, and having a good insulating layer. Traditionally, this process has required two socks, a liner and an outer. The new Ingenius sock integrates both jobs into one piece of fabric and voila — one sock! This application reduces sock to sock friction, creepy sock and means fewer socks to keep track of and wash. Plus, the Merino wool outer layer provides exceptional warmth. Contact: www.wigwam.com for local dealers. Hand-e-View Mirror: Why any snowmobiler would ride without being able to see behind remains a mystery and with Hand-e-View there’s no excuse. The mirror straps around the wrist of your glove and fastens to itself with velcro, so the glove slips on and off easily while it remains in place. To see behind, all you have to do is raise your left hand. Hand-e-View is excellent for trail riders and a must for mountain snowmobilers because those sleds don’t have mirrors — and what better way to keep track of your buddies? Call E-Z TRAXX at 1-800-665-2033 or click on www.eztraxx.com Until the next time, remember that snowmobiling is an off-road activity, so you ride OFSC trails at your own risk.
