East Wawanosh PS news Students compete in cross-country meet East Wawanosh had several runners participate in the Avon Maitland district cross-country meet held in Mitchell on Friday. Oct. 17. The girls results were: nine years. Brittany Appleby, 16th; Stephanie Robinson. 54th out of 99 runners; 10 years. Caroline McDowell, second and Heidi Raynard. 11th out of 82 runners; 11 years. Alicia Appleby, 25th out of 78 runners; 13 years and over. Sydney Belleau. ninth and Scary sight The Belgrave Guides and Sparks held their annual Halloween party at the East Wawanosh Public School on Oct. 30. The girls were dressed in all kinds of different costumes including devils, brides, hula girls and of course witches. The girls and boys teams travelled to Grey Central Public School to participate in the North Huron Soccer Tournament on a cold, wet Tuesday. Oct. 21. The boys placed second overall with three ties and one win. the girls also placed second, with one loss and three wins. The members of the boys team were: Blaine Hallahan, Jamie Wolf, Sean Cook, Robert Lessard, J.D. Shiell, Cameron Chaffe, Johnathon McDowell, Carter Cloakey, Brad Haines, Jeremy Anderson. Rob Marriott, Jesse Mullin. Scott Pletch. Jordan Smith, Adam Malhiot, Kyle Jamieson, Ben Procter and Krys Campbell. Members of the girls team were: Shauna Dugas, Tammy Freiburger, Lacey McArter, Shauna Dawson, Ellen Cook, Nicole Robinson, Sydney Belleau, Baillie Bell, Janine VanCamp, Ashley Casemore, Alicia Appleby, Kate-Lynn Losch, Meagan Pletch, Kaytee Richmond and Adel Dodds. The Grade 4/5 class will be travelling to the Wingham Public School on Thursday, Nov. 6 in the afternoon to attend the Just Say Moe presentation. This is an anti-smoking presentation funded by the health unit for junior students. Students will be involved in follow-up programs in their health classes. The Remembrance Day service on Tuesday, Nov. 11 is at 10:30 a.m. in the school auditorium. All students who belong to Guides, Sparks, Brownies, Cubs and Air Cadets, etc. are encouraged to wear their uniforms for the assembly. Parents/guardians and members from the community are welcome to the service and to remain afterwards for refreshments. The Grade 8 students will be taking part in a Farm Safety First Aid course here at the school all day on Thursday, Nov. 13. Students will receive a certificate upon completion of this course. The Foundation For Enriching Education with the Avon Maitland District School Board is offering a Waterworks workshop for our Grade 8 students. Artitudes is made possible, no cost to the school, through the fundraising activities of the Foundation. This is a popular workshop on water issues using masks, movement and drama. The students will learn about the water cycle and also current and emerging water problems or droughts, floods, deforestation, aquifer depletion, acid rain, forest fires, pollution, etc. This workshop is part of the Grade 7 and 8 science curriculum. The Grade 7s will participate in the workshop Friday, Nov. 21 and Monday, Nov. 24. John Davidson will be at the school on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. to do a presentation to all students and staff on Jesse’s Journey and stem cell research. Anyone who would like to attend this presentation are more than welcome. Each year the Legion visits to videotape children in Grades JK/SK, 4, 8 and any new students. The videotaping will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. for kindergarten A and Thursday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. for kindergarten B, Grades 4, 8 and all new students.
