The next step in rejuvenation of
Blyth’s main street requires funding
from both local and federal sources,
Steven Sparling, chair of the Blyth
Idea Group told the Blyth Business
Association. Oct. 28.

meeting. Sparling said BIG has
asked the North Huron Twp.

for $6,000 which will leverage
$24,000 from the federal
governments Community Economic
Development Technical Assistance
Program. The money would be used
to hire Stratford economic
development consultant Lynn
Ternosky who began work on
Blyth’s plans earlier this summer
under a small grant from the Huron
Business Development Corporation
(HBDC).
Sparling said BIG’s plan would
tackle the problems of the village’s
main street on three fronts.

An ambassador program would be
like a Welcome Wagon program for
new and existing businesses,
helping to create success for those
who do business here. This group
would also develop an expatriate
contact program, to invite former
residents of the area to return home
to create businesses.
Sparling quoted Paul Nichol of
HBDC who said 80 per cent of
economic growth would be
stimulated either by people already
living in the area or expatriates who
come home.
The second approach is a business
retention and recruitment strategy to
seek additions to the main street that
can prosper under the changing
conditions of today’s economic
realities.

ALL NIGHT STREET PARKING
Due to municipal snow removal operations, the parking of cars
on Blyth streets and municipal parking lots during the winter
months (November 1 to May 1) will be strictly prohibited.
All vehicles must be removed from Blyth streets and roadways
of the municipality, between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 s.m.
Violators will be prosecuted or will be required to bear the cost
of having their vehicle towed away. The owner of any such
parked vehicle will be liable for any damage to the said vehicle or
to snow plow equipment.

Eleanor Babcock will serve as
president of the Blyth Business
Association until the group’s annual
meeting in the spring.
The regular election last spring
had been postponed until the fall
meeting, held Oct. 28 at the Blyth
Legion, in the hopes that someone
would step forward to offer to lead
the group. When no one did,
Babcock agreed to serve the rest of
the term.
Melissa Boven of the Blyth
Festival will serve as vice-president.
Lorna Fraser from Blyth
Apothecary returns as secretary and
Donna Longman from CIBC is
treasurer.
Luann Taylor of Luann’s Country
Flowers and Gifts and Fraser will
make up the membership
committee. The oromotions
committee will be made up of
Nancy Snell of NJS Design and
Party Rentals, Babcock, Fraser and
Boven.
The group’s next event will be the
Lighting of the Lights beginning of
the Christmas season Nov. 14 with
carol singing and free hot cider and
cookies.

followed by the hymn O Master, Let
Me Walk with Thee.
Rev. Bannerman’s message to the
adults was Bad Boys of the Bible.
Joseph was being sold by his jealous
brothers as a slave, then years later
the brothers came to Egypt to ask for
food because of the famine. The
brothers were sent home for their
brother Benjamin, and to see if the
brothers had changed. Jacob let the
brothers take Benjamin back to
Egypt and Joseph revealed himself
and forgave his brothers.
