About now I’m trying to find
something good about November.
It’s probably my least favourite
month and when the weather of the
past few weeks starts out the month,
it really is hard to find the good
thoughts. The best I can come up
with at this point is that Advent will
start by the end of the month so I
guess that will have to do.
The fall bazaars are in full swing
so get out there and support the
groups and get a little Christmas
shopping started. There, that makes
November worthwhile.
The cold season is now on and
many of your family and friends are
already trying to share the little
“bugs” with you. Protect yourself
and stay healthy. Keep your hanky
handy - use it to open doors and
sneeze towards and then wash it or
toss it.
Everyone has their opinion on
how to avoid being sick so if it
works for you, do it. For once, and
this rarely happens, everyone in
health and research agrees -
washing your hands is the most
effective way of avoiding and
harbouring the nasty little invaders.
Yes, plain simple water, soap and
friction. Sing a little ditty to
yourself, your personal favourite of
course as long as it lasts at least 15
seconds all the while you’re moving
your hands and the soap under the
running water. Do this every time
you cough, sneeze, scratch, use the
Love theme
at church
service
in Melville
The main theme of the morning
service at Melville Presbyterian
Church last Sunday was love, as
illustrated in the Biblical story of
Ruth and Naomi.
Beginning with the children’s
story. Rev. Cathrine Campbell
described an acquaintance who had
moved to England to work. Friends
thought he would never be happy in
this new environment. To the
contrary, when she visited him in
England last summer Rev.
Campbell found him thriving with
many opportunities and successes
in his new location.
What was the reason for his
success? “It was because I was
given so much good stuff before I
made the move,” he told her.
“Things like talent, love,
confidence, good family.”
And not one of these things can
be bought for money. So Rev.
Campbell told the children “When
you are asked to do something
different, don't be afraid to do it.
Just remember that God will take
care of you.”
Psalm 146 was read responsively
by all the congregation.
The first scripture reading was
Ruth 1: 1 - 22. Assisting Rev.
Campbell. Janna Dodds and Rachel
Speers read the words of Naomi and
Ruth to role play the story. The
theme was further defined by
scripture readings Hebrews 9: 11 -

toilet, touch someone or something
and always before you eat. You’re
doing everyone in your midst a
favour with this simple prevention.
Some of the collected figures are
disgusting - something like 25 per
cent of folks don’t wash their hands
after using the toilet. People actually
stood in public bathrooms and kept
track of who directly left the cubicle.
Uck! For your personal health that
means that one in four of the people
who touch you has creepy little
gross things riding on their hands
just waiting to pass them on.
Please wash your hands. You’re
doing yourself and everyone in your
world a great big favour.
May you avoid the cough, sore
throat and headache this season.
The United Church celebrated its
127th anniversary with Rev. John
Brown of St. Thomas and Sandy
and Bonnie Bender from Wroxeter
as their guests. The gifts they offered
were well received and the
celebration concluded with a terrific
lunch by the UCW.
Enjoy the week - read a book.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
