(Elyse DeBruyn photo) PEOPLE AROUND ETHEL By Andrea Hruska Call 887-2605 Many Ethelonians celebrated birthdays and anniversaries this past week. These include Garett Pfeiler, Michael Schott, Wendy Clark and Bob and Olive Cunningham. Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham celebrated 50 years of marriage. This week has been relatively interesting as candidates are out pounding the pavement and getting to know where Ethel is. Hopefully Yummm we will see many community members out on Wednesday evening at the Ethel Hall for the all candidates meeting. For those unaware of the meeting, I apologize on behalf of the young female teenager who can be seen in the morning ripping notices off the mailbox, most recently, the all candidates meeting notice. We have so few ways of communicating coming events here in Ethel and notices for church dinners, meetings, showers, etc are quite visible there. (And at the very least, perhaps she could throw the notices in the trash rather than on the ground.) Anyway, hope to see as many concerned and informed community members at the hall on Wednesday as possible. Have a great week! She spoke of the early settlers how they would prepare their Thanksgiving turkey. It would be a wild bird captured in the forest. They would prepare it similar to now, only they would use chestnut stuffing and cook it on a spit. Madeline Steiss recorded seven FROM CRANBROOK visits and two cards sent to shut-ins. Yvonne Knight read of the work of the PSDW group in Malawi and Nicaragua helping the underprivileged. Taking excerpts from Glad Tidings newspaper clippings, Yvonne proved how important prayer is in everyday life. Twenty-month-old Elisa Knight was intent on her meal as she dined at the Ethel United Church harvest supper on Sunday night. She is the granddaughter of Yvonne and Leslie Knight of Cranbrook.
