parlour Thursday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.
with 14 present.
Ollie Craig led the worship on the
Thanksgiving theme. She also
presented the study, discussing
death.
It was decided to put up the mitten
tree in the narthex for the Huron
County Christmas Bureau.
The UCW will be making a quilt
for the 150th anniversary.
Sharon Bromley served lunch.
The next meeting will be
Christmas potluck at 6:30 p.m. on

Many family, friends and
neighbours gathered together at the
Belgrave Community Centre to wish
Lloyd and Lillian Appleby
congratulations on their 50th
wedding anniversary. Guests came
from near and far, Ottawa, London
and other communities.
About 200 people enjoyed visiting
and cake and ice-cream in the
afternoon. A family dinner was
served after the open house.
Congratulations to Charla
Richmond and Jamie Bromley on
their recent marriage.
The Witches Walk was another
great success with about 700 people
going through the Greenway Trail. If
you can help next year let Bev Blair
know at 523-4964. It promises to be
bigger and better.
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Oct. 26 were Faye Bolger and
Diana Campbell. Ushering was
Terry Richmond. Prelude music was
played by Margaret Kai, organist
and Kim (Craig) Hornyak pianist.
The choir anthem was For the Joy
of Music. The children’s hymn was
Jesus Bids Us Shine. Their story was
about the anniversary cake. The Tiny
Tots choir sang Happy Birthday
Blyth Church, directed by Deb
Hakkers.
The dramatized Lectionary I Hear
Jesus was sung by the drama club.
The Old Testament reading was
from Numbers 10: 29-32, read by
Lorna Fraser, chair of session. The
responsive Psalm 118 was followed
by hymn The Church is One
Foundation.
Rev. Eugen Bannerman’s message
to the adults was a history of Rev.
Archibald McLean the longest
serving minister. Rev. McLean
ministered in Blyth for 40 years,
from 1866 to 1906. The second
longest serving minister was Rev.
Cecil Wittich from 1970 for 12 years
and then later for two years as an
interim minister. He still returns for
special services.
The third longest minister was
George Telford for 10 years. He also
helped to built Memorial Hall and
staged one of Blyth’s first and and
greatest musicals, the cantata
Nebuchadenezer.
Everyone was invited to go
downstairs for lunch and fellowship.
The evening service was held at 7
p.m. with Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez, Jr.
and the Men of Note singing. If you
have never heard the Men of Note
the next time they are singing go and
hear them. What a ministry of song
from so many men. I am sure that if
you live near the church you could
hear them singing.
The gospel reading was read by
Ollie Craig.
Rev. Ramirez’s message was
Called to Serve Together.
Rev. Ramirez recalled his
memories of coming to a different
culture to minister. “We are all
Christians and should work together
as God’s people,” he said.
Rev. Ramirez and Norma shook
hands with many Blyth friends and
could call most by name. What a
wonderful memory.
Everyone was invited downstairs
for more visiting and fellowship.
