Mission and service, sermon emphasis
Members and guests were greeted
to Duff’s United Church by Robert
and Jackie Glanville and children
Joelle. Melissa and Robert. The
service emphasis was on the mission
and service fund.
The announcements included the
upcoming turkey supper and ticket
sales, the option of church givings
through PAR and the availability of
Rev. Swan’s book of Power For
Living in These Days by donation.
Donations will be used to buy
additional hymn books.
The fundraising committee is
collecting empty printer cartridges.
These can be left on the shelf in the
kitchen.
The youth participating in the 24-
hour fast held at the church raised
over $700 for the mission and
service fund. Following (he call to
worship the nine youths who
participated in the weekend fast
presented The Great M & S Fashion
Show.
The MC for the show was Laura
Black who introduced first Miss
Cassandra who was dressed in
purple, representing the colour of
the church. Next was Mr. David who
was dressed in blue representing the
colour of peace. Miss Crystal and
Miss Michelle were attired in
colours of green to represent the
environment.
Miss Bethany was aglow in
yellows and gold to portray gold as
the colour of money that enables the
mission and service fund to carry on.
Miss Kelly was attired in orange and
wearing a caution vest to portray
now we must proceed with caution
in facing obstacles in life.
Miss Cassidy was a vision in red,
the colour of Canada and
represented Canada’s support of the
many programs of the Mission and
Service fund
Finally Mr. Nathan came down
the aisle wearing a multi-coloured
hat representing the variety of
mission and service programs that
are offered.
The smaller children were called
forward and Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky
gave them a colouring book to take
with them to Sunday school.
The senior choir performed the
song I’ll Fly Away for the anthem.
This was followed by Heidi
McClure reading the first scripture.
The mission and service fund
drama was presented by Rev. Joan,
Neil McGavin, Jo-Ann McDonald
as the coffee shop crowd, Jim Cook
as the minister and LeeAnn
Konarski as the M&S enthusiast.
The drama centred around how, if all
would give a little, say, coffee
money, it would add up to a lot in
helping support the mission and
service fund.
The senior choir led in a round for
the Litany of Hope and the offering
was taken by Jim McDonald and
Heidi McClure.
This week’s service will focus on
the environment and its stewardship
relationship.
This Saturday is the UCW day
out. Contact Heidi McClure or Judy
Emmrich about information.
As mentioned, the youth of
Walton and Bluevale churches and
area took part in a 24-hour fast at
Walton Church. They began fasting
Saturday morning and had water,
juice and broth to carry them
through until Sunday morning. They
did raking, played games, held
discussion groups and generally had
a good time.
Sleeping on the floor was
somewhat of a hardship but
emphasized that many others suffer
greater hardships than that.
The youth gathered pledges and
donations and raised over $700 for
the mission and service fund.
The UCW provided lunch after
church of soup, sandwiches and
squares. Donations were also
accepted for the fund.
Congrats to everyone who
participated and supported the
mission and service fund.
